Aqua Peel in Korea: Deep Cleansing and Skin Hydration Explained — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

An Aqua Peel is a water-based medical facial that uses hydro-dermabrasion and gentle suction to cleanse, exfoliate and extract the pores, then hydrates the skin with serums. It is a common first treatment in Korean clinics because it is comfortable, has no downtime and gives an immediate fresh, clear look that lasts about one to two weeks. It does not treat scars, deep wrinkles or pigment. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, an Aqua Peel starts from ₩69,000 per session, or ₩299,000 for a 5-session course (KRW, excluding 10% VAT).

What is an Aqua Peel?

An Aqua Peel is a clinic facial based on hydro-dermabrasion. A handpiece delivers water-based solutions to the skin while gentle suction lifts away dead cells, oil and debris. Unlike traditional microdermabrasion, which uses crystals or abrasive tips, an Aqua Peel relies on liquid and vacuum, which makes it gentler and more hydrating.

Despite the word "peel," an Aqua Peel is not a chemical peel and does not cause visible peeling. The name refers to the way it lifts away the outermost layer of dead skin and congestion. In Korea, it is often recommended as a first clinic treatment, a regular maintenance facial, or a preparation step before other procedures. See our Hydrafacial and Aqua Peel page.

How deep cleansing works

Pores fill with a mix of oil, dead skin cells and environmental grime. Over time, this hardens into blackheads and sebaceous filaments that make pores look larger and skin look dull. An Aqua Peel addresses this in three ways:

  • Softening. Water-based solutions, sometimes with mild acids, soften hardened oil.
  • Lifting. Gentle suction draws loosened debris out of the pores without squeezing.
  • Clearing the surface. Dead skin cells are lifted away so the surface reflects light more evenly.

Because extraction is done with suction rather than pressure, there is less risk of the redness and marks that can follow manual extraction.

How skin hydration works

Once the skin is clean, hydrating serums are applied. Freshly cleansed skin absorbs these more readily, so the skin feels plump and comfortable afterward. Hydration is especially welcome after a long-haul flight or in Seoul's dry winter air. The effect is surface-level and temporary, so if long-lasting hydration is your goal, your doctor may suggest an injectable booster such as an HA skin booster.

Aqua Peel steps on treatment day

  1. Skin check. Your skin type and any recent treatments are reviewed.
  2. Cleansing. Makeup and sunscreen are removed.
  3. Hydro-exfoliation. The handpiece glides over the skin, delivering solution and gentle suction.
  4. Extraction. Focused passes on congested areas such as the nose and chin.
  5. Hydration. Serums are infused to leave skin soft and plump.
  6. Soothing finish. Calming care and sunscreen; LDM ultrasound can be added.

Who is an Aqua Peel good for?

Usually a good fit

  • Blackheads and congested pores
  • Dull, rough or dehydrated skin
  • Oily or combination skin
  • First-time visitors to a Korean clinic
  • Anyone wanting a no-downtime refresh

Talk to the doctor first

  • Inflamed acne or a rosacea flare
  • Sunburn, open wounds or cold sores
  • Recent laser or isotretinoin use
  • Very sensitive or reactive skin

Why an Aqua Peel is a common first step in Korean clinics

For many international visitors, an Aqua Peel is the first treatment they try in Seoul, and for good reason. It is comfortable, quick and predictable, with no needles and no recovery time. It also gives the doctor a chance to see how your skin behaves once it is clean and hydrated, which can make it easier to judge whether further treatments, such as lasers or boosters, would be helpful.

Seasons and travel also matter. Seoul's winters are cold and dry, and summers are hot and humid. In winter, an Aqua Peel helps restore comfort to skin that feels tight and flaky, while in summer it clears the extra oil and sweat that build up in pores. After a long-haul flight, many visitors find their skin looks dull and dehydrated, and an Aqua Peel on the second day of a trip can help reset it.

Making the most of your session

  • Arrive without heavy makeup if you can, to save time.
  • Mention any recent treatments, including at-home peels or retinoids.
  • Tell the team which areas feel most congested so extra passes can be made there.
  • If you have sensitive skin, ask about adding LDM for extra calming.

An Aqua Peel also fits easily into ready-made combinations, such as the First Glow Package, which pairs it with other low-downtime care.

Aqua Peel results: what to expect

When What you may notice
Straight after Clearer pores, smoother surface, fresh glow
Next few days Makeup applies more evenly; skin feels hydrated
1–2 weeks Effect gradually fades as oil and dead cells build up again
Regular sessions Fewer blackheads and more consistent texture

An Aqua Peel is excellent for maintenance but has limits. It does not treat acne scars, deep wrinkles, sagging or pigmentation. If these are your main concerns, see our guides to large pores or glass skin treatments for stronger options.

Aqua Peel vs other Korean facials

Treatment Main purpose Downtime
Aqua Peel Deep cleansing and hydration None
Hydrafacial with booster Cleansing plus targeted serum None
LDM Water Drop Soothing and calming ultrasound None
Acne Clinic Program Active breakouts None to mild redness

Is an Aqua Peel safe? Side effects

An Aqua Peel is one of the gentlest treatments offered in a dermatology clinic, which is why it is often recommended to first-time visitors. Mild, temporary redness or tingling can occur, especially on sensitive areas, and usually fades within an hour. Rarely, someone may react to a serum ingredient. A few people notice small breakouts in the following days as congestion surfaces. Tell the team about allergies, recent treatments and medications before you start. If you have rosacea or very reactive skin, the doctor may suggest a gentler version, a lower suction setting or LDM instead, so the skin is not irritated. People using prescription retinoids or who have had a laser or peel in the past week may be asked to wait a few days. These simple checks are part of why medical facials in a clinic setting tend to be predictable and comfortable.

Aftercare after an Aqua Peel

  • Makeup is usually fine the same day.
  • Skip scrubs, strong acids and retinoids for a day or two.
  • Use sunscreen daily.
  • Keep moisturizing to extend the hydrated feel.

Combining treatments? An Aqua Peel is often booked before lasers or boosters later in the week. Ask your doctor about order and timing, or see combining treatments in one visit.
