Juvelook vs Sculptra: Collagen Stimulation Treatments Compared — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Juvelook and Sculptra are both collagen stimulators, but they target different layers. Juvelook combines PDLLA with hyaluronic acid and is placed in the skin to refine texture, pores, fine lines and shallow scars. Sculptra uses PLLA and is placed deeper to gradually restore volume in hollow temples, flat cheeks and areas of laxity. Both build results over two to three months and need two to three sessions. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, Juvelook starts from ₩299,000 for 2cc and Sculptra from ₩590,000 per vial, excluding 10% VAT.

Juvelook vs Sculptra: what is the core difference?

Both treatments belong to a category called biostimulators. Instead of filling a space with gel, they introduce tiny biodegradable particles that encourage your body to produce new collagen. The differences lie in the material, the depth and the goal.

  • Juvelook, from Vaim Global in Korea, uses PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) combined with hyaluronic acid. It is injected into the dermis to improve skin quality: pores, texture, fine lines and shallow acne scars.
  • Sculptra, made by Galderma, uses PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid). It is placed deeper to gradually restore volume and firmness in hollow temples, flattened cheeks and areas where the face has lost support.

Think of Juvelook as improving the surface fabric, and Sculptra as rebuilding the padding beneath it. Our treatment pages explain each in more detail: Juvelook and Sculptra.

How do collagen stimulators work?

After injection, the particles trigger a controlled response in which your skin lays down new collagen around them. Over months, the particles break down and are cleared, while the new collagen remains. This has three practical consequences:

  • Results are gradual. Early fullness is mostly swelling and fluid, which settles within days. The real change develops over two to three months.
  • Results look natural. Because your own tissue creates the improvement, it tends to look like healthier skin rather than added product.
  • Results last longer than hydration boosters. Juvelook commonly lasts 12 months or more after a series; Sculptra can last up to about two years.

The trade-off is that neither product can be dissolved like hyaluronic acid filler, so technique and planning matter.

Typical ranges, not guarantees. Your doctor adjusts the plan for your skin and anatomy.

Which one is better for your face?

Juvelook tends to suit

  • Enlarged pores and rough texture
  • Fine lines and early crepiness
  • Shallow rolling acne scars
  • People who want better skin, not more volume

Sculptra tends to suit

  • Hollow temples or sunken cheeks
  • A gaunt look after weight loss or with age
  • Mild laxity where support has thinned
  • People who want gradual, long-lasting volume

If you have both texture concerns and volume loss, some doctors combine them in a staged plan. For Juvelook's higher-concentration volume version, see Lenisna vs Sculptra. For more on hollowing, see facial volume loss.

It also helps to be clear about what neither product does. Collagen stimulators do not lift heavy sagging the way a thread lift or ultrasound lifting can, and they do not relax expression lines the way Botox does. If your main concern is jowls or a drooping jawline, a lifting device may be the better first step, with a stimulator added later for skin quality. Your doctor will explain where each treatment fits and will not push a stimulator if it is not the right tool for your concern.

What happens on treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor assesses your skin quality and volume, explains which product suits your goal and agrees the amount and price.
  2. Preparation. Both products need careful mixing and hydration before injection; this step affects smoothness and lump risk.
  3. Numbing. Topical numbing for 30–40 minutes; local anesthetic may be mixed into the product.
  4. Injection. Juvelook is placed in many small points within the skin. Sculptra is placed deeper, usually in a fanning pattern with a cannula.
  5. Massage and aftercare. For Sculptra, you will be shown how to massage the area for several days. Written English aftercare is provided for both.

Results timeline: what to expect

Because both treatments rely on collagen production, the timeline is similar, but the visible effect differs.

  • Day 0–3: swelling makes the area look fuller. With Sculptra, this early volume is temporary and mostly fluid.
  • Week 1–2: swelling settles. Many people feel the result has disappeared; this is normal.
  • Months 1–3: new collagen builds. Juvelook shows as smoother texture and finer pores; Sculptra shows as gradual softening of hollows.
  • After the series: the full effect is visible, with maintenance planned according to how your skin ages.

Take consistent photos before treatment and at one and three months. See the Sculptra results timeline for more detail.

Risks and side effects

Common, temporary effects include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and small bumps at injection points. The main specific risk for both products is nodules or lumps, which are more likely if the product is placed too superficially, mixed inadequately or distributed unevenly. Sculptra's massage routine is designed to lower that risk. Read does Juvelook cause lumps for more.

As with any injection, infection, allergic-type reactions and rare vascular complications are possible, particularly in deeper areas such as the temples. Talk to the doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, a history of keloids or autoimmune disease, or recent filler in the same area.

Prices are per session and exclude 10% VAT. The tourist VAT refund on cosmetic procedures ended on January 1, 2026 — see VAT refund in 2026.

Because both treatments usually need two to three sessions, budget for the full series rather than a single visit. Full details are on the Sculptra price page and the Juvelook price page.

Planning collagen stimulators around your Seoul trip

  • Think in series. One session is a good start, but the full plan spans several weeks. Many visitors complete the first session in Seoul and continue on a return trip.
  • Massage at home. Sculptra massage can be done anywhere, so you do not need to stay in Seoul for it.
  • Avoid your arrival day and leave a few days before major photos for swelling and bumps to settle.
  • Location. Dernia is in Myeongdong, near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).
  • Book ahead through our consultation form, including your travel dates.

Coming back for session two? Spacing of four to six weeks fits many people's return trips. If you cannot return, ask your doctor how to continue safely at home. See what if I can't finish a series.

Do I need to massage after Juvelook?

Massage is a standard part of Sculptra aftercare. For Juvelook, your doctor will tell you whether massage is needed for your treatment.

Can these be dissolved if I dislike the result?

How many sessions will I need?

Both are usually given as two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart.
