Korean Glass Skin Injections vs Medical Facials: Which Works Better? — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

For a glass-skin glow that lasts, injections usually work better: skin boosters such as an HA skin booster, Skinvive or the Chanel injection place hydration inside the skin, keeping it dewy for about one to six months. Medical facials such as Hydrafacial, Aqua Peel and LDM give an instant, no-downtime glow by cleansing, exfoliating and hydrating the surface, but it fades in about one to two weeks. Most visitors get the best result by combining both. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, HA boosters start from ₩99,000 and Aqua Peel from ₩69,000, excluding 10% VAT.

Glass skin injections HA or PN skin boosters
Medical facials Hydrafacial, Aqua Peel, LDM
Glow lasts About 1–6 months vs 1–2 weeks
Downtime Small bumps 1–2 days vs none
Best approach Often both together
Price in Seoul Boosters from ₩99,000; facials from ₩59,000

What is Korean glass skin?

Glass skin describes skin so smooth, clear and hydrated that it reflects light evenly, almost like glass. It is not about heavy makeup or a filter. Clinically, it comes down to four things:

  • Hydration deep enough that skin looks plump and dewy
  • Smooth texture with refined pores and few bumps
  • Even tone without obvious redness or pigment
  • A clear surface free of congestion and dead skin build-up

Injections and medical facials address different parts of this list, which is why Korean clinics often combine them. See our glass skin treatments guide for the full picture.

What are glass skin injections?

Glass skin injections is a popular term in Korea for skin boosters, injectables that improve skin quality without changing shape. At Dernia, the main options are:

  • HA skin booster (water-glow injection): non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid that draws water into the skin within days, lasting about one to three months.
  • Chanel injection(NCTF 135HA): non-cross-linked HA with vitamins and amino acids, best as three sessions; the name is a local nickname with no link to the fashion house.
  • Skinvive: lightly cross-linked HA microdroplets for smoothness and glow, about six months from one session.
  • Rejuran Healer: a polynucleotide booster for calmer, more resilient skin, helpful when sensitivity gets in the way of glow.

What are medical facials?

Medical facials are clinic-grade treatments without needles. At Dernia, they include:

  • Hydrafacial and Aqua Peel: water-based cleansing, gentle exfoliation, extraction and hydration with suction. Skin looks clearer and brighter immediately.
  • LDM Water Drop: a gentle dual-frequency ultrasound that soothes, hydrates and calms the skin, often added after other treatments.

Dernia does not currently offer chemical peels as a standalone service. A calming peel is included within the Acne Clinic Program, and your doctor can suggest alternatives for exfoliation at consultation.

Which works better for you?

Injections usually work better if

  • Your skin stays dry or dull despite good skincare
  • You want a glow that lasts after you fly home
  • You notice fine dehydration lines
  • You can allow a day or two for bumps

Medical facials usually work better if

  • You want an instant glow for an event today
  • Your skin is congested or has blackheads
  • You prefer no needles and no downtime
  • You want regular maintenance between boosters

For most visitors, the answer is both. A facial clears and preps the skin, and a booster delivers lasting hydration. If uneven tone is part of your concern, adding pico toning or laser toning can help; see dull skin treatments.

A typical glass skin plan in Seoul

  1. Consultation. A licensed doctor examines your hydration, texture, tone and sensitivity and builds a plan with a confirmed price, in English.
  2. Prep with a facial. Hydrafacial or Aqua Peel clears congestion and dead skin so the skin reflects light more evenly.
  3. Booster. An HA booster, Skinvive or Chanel injection adds hydration inside the skin; Rejuran may be suggested for sensitive skin.
  4. Soothe. LDM or a calming mask settles redness.
  5. Maintain. Facials every few weeks and boosters on the product's cycle keep the glow going.

Our Glass Skin Package brings several of these together for visitors.

How long does the glass skin glow last?

This is the question most visitors ask, because they want the result to survive the flight home and the weeks after.

  • Medical facials: the instant clarity comes from removing congestion and dead skin and loading the surface with hydrating serums. Skin naturally renews every few weeks, so the effect fades over about one to two weeks. Regular sessions, such as a five-session Aqua Peel course, keep it consistent.
  • HA skin booster and Chanel injection: hydration inside the skin usually holds for about one to three months, often extended by doing a short series of three sessions.
  • Skinvive: because the HA is lightly cross-linked, the glow commonly lasts around six months from a single session, which suits visitors who come to Seoul once or twice a year.
  • Rejuran Healer: rather than a quick glow, it builds calmer, more resilient skin over a series, which helps the glass-skin look hold up better over time.

Daily habits make a real difference. Gentle cleansing, layered hydration, daily sunscreen and avoiding over-exfoliation protect the result. Strong UV, smoking, very dry air and harsh scrubs all shorten it. If you live in a dry climate, a humidifier and a richer night cream can help your glow last longer between treatments.

Are they safe? Side effects to expect

Medical facials are very low risk. Brief pinkness is common, and sensitive skin may feel warm for a few hours. They are postponed if you have active cold sores, open wounds or sunburn.

Skin boosters are generally well tolerated in trained hands. Expect redness, small raised bumps and occasional bruising for one to two days. Less commonly, lumps, infection or allergic-type reactions occur, and HA injections carry a small risk of vascular complications. Boosters should wait during pregnancy or breastfeeding and with active skin infection. PN boosters are salmon-derived, so mention any fish allergy.

  • Day two: a facial helps reset skin after a long, dry flight. Avoid booking anything on your arrival day.
  • Early in the trip: boosters, so bumps settle before photos.
  • Last day: a facial is fine right before departure because there is no downtime.
  • Location: Dernia is in Myeongdong, near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2), close to the K-beauty shops.
