LDM and LED are two of the gentlest treatments in a Korean clinic, often added after lasers and peels. Here is how they work, how they differ and when each is worth adding during a Seoul trip.
LDM and LED are both gentle, no-downtime recovery treatments. LDM Water Drop uses dual-frequency ultrasound to soothe, hydrate and calm the skin, which is why it is often added straight after lasers, peels or microneedling. LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light, such as red or blue, to support calming and help with acne-related inflammation. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, LDM starts from ₩59,000 per session (KRW, excluding 10% VAT). LED is used as part of our Acne Clinic Program rather than as a standalone service.
Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation. LED is included in the Acne Clinic Program, not sold separately.
LDM vs LED: the short answer
Both are recovery and maintenance treatments rather than corrective ones. LDM Water Drop uses ultrasound to calm, hydrate and soothe the skin, and is especially useful immediately after lasers, peels and microneedling. LED light therapy uses non-heating light at specific wavelengths; red light is used for calming and recovery, and blue light is used for acne-prone skin. If your priority is soothing and hydration after another treatment, LDM is usually the more noticeable choice. If your priority is calming active breakouts, LED as part of an acne program can help.
At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, LDM is available on its own or as an add-on. LED is used within our Acne Clinic Program and is not offered as a standalone service.
What is LDM Water Drop?
LDM (local dynamic micro-massage) Water Drop Lifting is a gentle ultrasound treatment that alternates between two frequencies as the handpiece glides over the skin. The rapid switching creates a micro-massage effect within the tissue. It is used to soothe, hydrate and calm the skin, and to help it settle after more intense procedures.
- Session time: 15–20 minutes.
- Feel: a light, cool or warm gliding sensation; most people find it relaxing.
- Downtime: none.
- Lifting effect: despite the name, any lifting effect is subtle and temporary.

What is LED light therapy?
LED (light-emitting diode) therapy shines low-level light of specific wavelengths onto the skin. It does not heat or injure the skin. Different colors are used for different goals:
- Red light: used to support calming and skin recovery.
- Blue light: used for acne-prone skin, as it targets bacteria associated with breakouts.
- Near-infrared: sometimes used alongside red light for recovery.
Evidence for LED is strongest for acne and as a supportive treatment, and the effect is generally gentle. It works best as part of a wider plan rather than as a standalone fix.

- LED: active breakouts as part of acne care
- Both: anyone wanting a relaxing, no-downtime add-on
Talk to the doctor first
- Expecting lifting or wrinkle reduction (other treatments suit better)
- Photosensitivity or light-sensitive conditions (for LED)
- Pregnancy (ask before any device treatment)

Why recovery treatments matter after lasers and peels
Many Korean clinic treatments deliberately create a small amount of heat or controlled injury to trigger renewal. Lasers, RF microneedling and exfoliating treatments all leave the skin temporarily warm, red and more reactive. How the skin is cared for in the first hours and days affects comfort and, in some cases, the risk of irritation or pigment changes.
That is where recovery add-ons come in. LDM is commonly applied straight after pico toning, laser toning, Excel V or a facial to calm heat and support hydration. Many price plans at Dernia already include an option with LDM, such as pico toning with LDM or laser toning with LDM. For acne, LED fits naturally after extraction to settle inflammation, which is why it is built into the Acne Clinic Program.
LDM can also be booked on its own. Some visitors use a short course during a longer stay to calm sensitive or dehydrated skin, especially in Seoul's dry winter months or after a long-haul flight. Because it is gentle, it can be scheduled on days when stronger treatments are not appropriate, such as the day before flying or between laser sessions. LED, by contrast, works best when it is part of a structured acne plan with extraction and medical skincare, rather than as an occasional extra.
Neither replaces good home care. Gentle cleansing, a simple moisturizer and daily sunscreen remain the foundation of recovery. See aftercare after laser treatment.
What happens during an LDM session
- Preparation. The skin is cleansed, or LDM begins right after your main treatment.
- Gel application. A conductive gel or soothing ampoule is applied.
- Ultrasound. The handpiece glides over the face for about 15–20 minutes.
- Finish. A mask or soothing cream is applied, followed by sunscreen.
Results: what to expect
After LDM, most people notice that skin feels calmer, cooler and more hydrated, and that redness from a preceding treatment settles faster. A course of sessions can help sensitive, reactive skin feel more balanced over time. LED effects are gradual and are usually judged across an acne program rather than after one session. Neither treatment produces dramatic visible change on its own; their value is comfort, recovery and supporting the result of other treatments. If you want visible lifting, wrinkle reduction or pigment clearance, ask about the main treatments those goals need, and use LDM or LED alongside them.
Is it safe? Side effects
Both are among the safest treatments in a clinic, which is one reason they are offered so freely as add-ons in Korea. LDM may cause brief warmth or mild redness. LED rarely causes problems, but people who are photosensitive or take photosensitizing medicines should tell the doctor first, and eye protection is used during LED sessions. - Getting here. Dernia is near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).
Flying home? Neither LDM nor LED has downtime, so you can fly the same day. Keep a hydrating cream in your carry-on. See no-downtime treatments in Seoul.
