What is Oligio X and how does it work?

Oligio X is a monopolar radiofrequency device developed by Wontech in Korea. Radiofrequency energy heats the deep dermis evenly. That heat makes existing collagen fibers contract, which can give a slightly firmer feel straight away, and then signals the skin to produce new collagen over the following months.

It works in a similar way to Thermage, which is why the two are often compared. A cooling system protects the skin surface while the energy works below, and the doctor can adjust energy levels during treatment for comfort. You can read more on our Oligio X treatment page.

What factors affect the price of Oligio X?

1. Number of shots

Shot count is the main price factor. Each shot is one pulse of RF energy. More shots mean wider coverage and more passes on looser areas such as the jowls and lower cheeks.

2. Treatment area

A focused plan on the cheeks or around the eyes needs fewer shots than a full face. Adding the neck needs more again, which is why the 900-shot plan exists.

3. Tip and device authenticity

RF devices use dedicated treatment tips. Ask to see the device and the shot counter, and confirm the device is Oligio X rather than a different RF system.

4. Doctor involvement

At Dernia, a licensed doctor examines your skin, sets the plan and adjusts energy for your face. That medical oversight is part of what you pay for.

5. VAT

Since January 1, 2026, tourists can no longer claim a VAT refund on cosmetic procedures. Add 10% VAT to listed prices. Read more in our 2026 VAT refund guide.

Who is a good candidate for Oligio X?

Usually a good fit

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity on the cheeks, jawline or neck
  • Crepey or less firm skin that you want to tighten
  • People who want little or no downtime during a trip
  • Anyone wanting an RF option at a lower price point than Thermage

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Heavy sagging that may need a different approach
  • Active infection, open wounds or a recent procedure in the area

If your main concern is deeper sagging rather than skin quality, ultrasound lifting may be considered alongside or instead of RF. See HIFU vs RF lifting.

Oligio X vs Thermage FLX and Volnewmer

All three are radiofrequency devices that tighten skin and stimulate collagen, but they differ in design, tips and price.

  • Thermage FLX is the long-established American RF device. At Dernia it starts from ₩990,000 for 300 shots, and results commonly last longer than lighter RF treatments.
  • Oligio X is a Korean RF device at a lower price, starting from ₩390,000 for 300 shots.
  • Volnewmer is another Korean RF device, from Classys, with a water-cooled tip. It starts from ₩390,000 for 300 shots at Dernia.

Which suits you depends on your skin, budget and how often you can return to Seoul. Compare them in Thermage FLX vs Oligio X and Oligio X vs Volnewmer.

What happens during an Oligio X treatment?

Knowing the steps helps you plan your day in Seoul and understand what the price covers.

  • Consultation in English. A licensed doctor examines your skin thickness and laxity, asks about implants, filler, threads and medications, then confirms the shot count and final price with you.
  • Cleansing and numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes. Some people need less, because the built-in cooling already makes RF fairly comfortable.
  • Grid and coupling. The skin may be marked so each zone is covered evenly, and a coupling fluid or gel helps the tip glide and conduct energy.
  • Treatment. The tip is placed on the skin pulse by pulse. You feel warmth that builds briefly, followed by cooling. The doctor adjusts energy based on your feedback and how your skin responds.
  • Soothing. Calming care settles any pinkness before you leave.

A 600-shot full face usually takes 30–60 minutes of treatment time, plus consultation and numbing.

How to budget for Oligio X over a year

Because Oligio X results commonly last six to twelve months, most people plan one or two sessions a year. If you visit Seoul only once a year, a single 600-shot session each visit is a common pattern. People who want a stronger effect sometimes combine RF tightening with focused ultrasound lifting in the same trip, since the two work at different depths. Read more in Korean lifting treatments explained. Your doctor can tell you whether a combination makes sense for your face, or whether a single device is enough.

Results and safety: what to expect

Some people notice slightly firmer skin on the day. The main improvement develops gradually as new collagen forms, usually over one to three months. Results commonly last six to twelve months, and many people repeat Oligio X once or twice a year.

Common side effects include temporary redness, mild swelling and tenderness. Less commonly, people notice small bumps or tingling. Rare risks include burns or blisters if energy is too high for the skin, which is why treatment should be performed under a doctor's supervision with energy checked throughout. See the Oligio X results timeline for a month-by-month guide.

Planning Oligio X around your Seoul trip

  1. Send your details before you fly. Use our consultation form with your dates and concerns.
  2. Choose a calm day. Avoid your arrival day; day two or three works well for most visitors.
  3. Find us easily. Dernia is in Myeongdong, close to Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).
  4. Consultation and treatment. A doctor confirms your shot count and price, then numbing is applied before a 30–60 minute treatment.
  5. Back to your plans. Most people return to sightseeing the same day.

Flying home? Oligio X involves no needles or wounds, so most people fly the next day. Avoid saunas and very hot baths for a day or two. Our aftercare guide has the full details in English.
