Skin boosters have short recovery, but knowing what is normal makes the first few days much easier, especially when you are traveling. This guide covers bumps, swelling, bruising, aftercare and when to contact the clinic.
After a skin booster, small raised bumps at injection points are normal and usually flatten within 1–3 days, depending on the product. Mild redness fades within hours, and pinpoint bruises, if they appear, fade within about a week. For the first day or two, avoid makeup on the treatment day, saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and alcohol. Most visitors can fly the next day. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, every booster comes with written aftercare in English and a contact for questions.
Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation.
What is normal after a skin booster?
Skin boosters are injected in many small amounts just beneath the skin surface. That technique causes a few predictable, temporary effects:
- Small raised bumps at each injection point, sometimes called the orange-peel or mosquito-bite look.
- Mild redness across the treated area for a few hours.
- Slight swelling, more noticeable under the eyes or on thin skin.
- Pinpoint bruises in some people, especially those who bruise easily.
- Tenderness when touching the area for a day or two.
These are signs of a normal treatment, not complications. They are usually mild enough that most visitors carry on sightseeing the same afternoon, perhaps with a hat or sunglasses, and many people find the bumps look more obvious to them in the mirror than to anyone else. How long do bumps, swelling and bruising last?
Recovery depends on the product, the amount injected and your skin.
| Booster | Bumps usually settle | Other notes |
|---|---|---|
| HA skin booster | 1–2 days | Light, quick recovery |
| Skinvive | 1–2 days | Mild redness or bumps |
| Profhilo | About 24 hours | Few injection points |
| Chanel injection (NCTF 135HA) | 1–2 days | Small bumps |
| Rejuran Healer | 1–3 days | Bumps can be more visible |
| Rejuran Eye | 1–2 days | Under-eye swelling more likely |
| Juvelook | 1–3 days | Follow massage advice |
Bruises, if they appear, usually fade from purple to yellow over five to seven days and can be covered with concealer once the skin has closed.
Day-by-day aftercare
- Treatment day. Keep hands off the treated area. Skip makeup. Use a cold pack for short periods if swelling bothers you. Avoid alcohol, saunas, hot baths and intense exercise.
- Day 1. Cleanse gently with lukewarm water. Light makeup is usually fine. Continue to avoid heat and hard workouts.
- Days 2–3. Bumps are usually settling. Return to most normal routines. Keep using gentle skincare.
- Days 3–7. Reintroduce retinol, exfoliating acids and facial devices once skin feels calm, unless your doctor advised otherwise.
- Every day. Use broad-spectrum sunscreen and a simple moisturizer.

What to avoid after a skin booster
Helpful in the first days
- Gentle cleanser and lukewarm water
- Simple, fragrance-free moisturizer
- Sunscreen every day
- Sleeping with your head slightly raised after eye boosters
Avoid for 1–2 days or as advised
- Saunas, jjimjilbang and hot baths
- Intense exercise and alcohol
- Facial massage, unless instructed
- Retinol, acids and scrubs for several days
Heat and alcohol widen blood vessels, which can increase swelling and bruising. Pressing or massaging the area can move product unevenly unless your doctor specifically recommends massage, as with some collagen stimulators.
Why recovery differs between products and people
Two people can have the same booster and recover differently. Thicker products and those that are mixed with more fluid tend to leave more visible bumps. Polynucleotide boosters such as Rejuran often produce more noticeable bumps than light hyaluronic acid boosters, while Profhilo, with only a few injection points, usually settles fastest. Technique matters too: injections by hand, with a needle or cannula, or with an injector device each leave a slightly different pattern.
Your own skin plays a part. Thin skin, especially under the eyes, swells more easily. People who bruise easily, take certain supplements or have recently drunk alcohol may see more bruising. Hormonal changes, a recent long flight and lack of sleep can also make swelling more noticeable. None of these are reasons to avoid treatment, but they are worth mentioning to your doctor so recovery can be planned around your schedule.
Concealing bumps and bruises
Once the injection points have closed, usually by the next day, you can use makeup. A green-tinted color corrector helps neutralize redness, and a peach or yellow corrector helps with purple or blue bruises. Apply with clean fingers or a clean sponge using gentle patting, not rubbing, and remove makeup with a mild cleanser at night. Avoid trying shared testers in cosmetics shops on freshly treated skin.
How to reduce swelling and bruising
- Before treatment: tell the doctor if you take blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil or other supplements that affect bleeding. Do not stop prescribed medication without medical advice.
- Limit alcohol the day before and the day of treatment.
- Cold compresses for a few minutes at a time on the day can help.
- Keep your head up the first night, especially after under-eye treatment.
- Stay hydrated and get good sleep.
When should I contact the clinic?
Most recovery is uneventful. However, contact the clinic promptly if you notice any of these:
- Pain that is getting worse rather than better
- Skin that turns pale, gray, blue or mottled
- Spreading redness, warmth, pus or fever
- A lump that grows, becomes firm and painful, or does not settle after a week
- Any change in vision after treatment near the eyes
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or difficulty breathing, which needs emergency care
These are uncommon, but early assessment makes a difference. Read side effects and when to contact us.
Can I fly after a skin booster?
Most people can fly the day after a skin booster. Cabin air is very dry, so apply moisturizer before boarding and again during long flights, and avoid touching your face. If you have had boosters near the eyes, swelling may be slightly more noticeable after a long flight, but it settles.
If you are combining a booster with filler or stronger treatments, ask your doctor about timing. Read flying after Botox, fillers and boosters and can I fly after Botox?
