Skin Boosters vs Hydrafacial: Which Gives Better Skin Hydration? — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

For deeper, longer-lasting hydration, skin boosters usually win: injected hyaluronic acid draws water into the skin and keeps it plumper for about one to six months, depending on the product. A Hydrafacial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates the surface with no downtime, giving an instant glow that lasts about one to two weeks. Many visitors do both. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, an HA skin booster starts from ₩99,000 (2cc), Skinvive from ₩290,000, and Aqua Peel from ₩69,000, excluding 10% VAT.

Skin boosters Injected hyaluronic acid or similar
Hydrafacial Medical facial: cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate
Hydration depth Inside the skin vs surface
Downtime Small bumps 1–2 days vs none
Lasts About 1–6 months vs 1–2 weeks
Price in Seoul Boosters from ₩99,000; facial from ₩69,000

Skin boosters vs Hydrafacial: the short answer

They hydrate at different depths. A Hydrafacial works on the surface: it cleans out pores, removes dead skin and floods the top layer with hydrating serums, so skin looks fresh and glowing immediately. Skin boosters place hydrating ingredients, usually hyaluronic acid (HA), inside the skin, where they hold water for weeks to months.

If you want a quick, comfortable glow with zero downtime, a Hydrafacial is ideal. If your skin is chronically dry or dehydrated and you want a change that lasts, a skin booster is usually the better investment. Many people combine them. See dehydrated skin treatments for the full range.

What is a Hydrafacial?

Hydrafacial and the similar Aqua Peel are medical-grade facials that use water-based solutions and gentle suction rather than scrubs. A typical session includes:

  • Cleansing and gentle exfoliation to lift dead skin cells
  • Extraction of congestion from pores with a vacuum tip
  • Hydration with serums pushed into the surface
  • Optional add-ons such as a booster serum or soothing LDM ultrasound

Sessions take 30–45 minutes and there is no downtime, so you can go straight back to sightseeing. The glow usually lasts about one to two weeks. Details are on our Hydrafacial and Aqua Peel page.

What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters are injectables placed in small amounts across the face to improve skin quality rather than shape. For hydration, the main options at Dernia are:

  • HA skin booster(water-glow injection): non-cross-linked HA that draws water into the skin within days, lasting about one to three months. Often planned as a short series.
  • Skinvive by Juvéderm: lightly cross-linked HA microdroplets for smoothness and glow, usually one session lasting about six months.
  • Profhilo: high-concentration stabilized HA that spreads through the skin for hydration and firmness, usually two sessions.
  • Chanel injection (NCTF 135HA): non-cross-linked HA with vitamins and amino acids, often as a series of three.

Which is right for you?

Choose a skin booster if

  • Your skin feels tight or dry even with good skincare
  • You see fine dehydration lines and a flat, dull look
  • You want hydration that lasts weeks to months
  • You can accept a day or two of small bumps

Choose a Hydrafacial if

  • You want an instant glow with no downtime
  • Your skin feels congested or has blackheads
  • You have a photo or event the same day
  • You prefer to avoid needles

A popular combination in Seoul is a Hydrafacial first to cleanse and prepare the skin, followed by a skin booster for lasting hydration. Your doctor will confirm whether same-day pairing suits your skin.

What happens on treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor checks your skin's hydration, sensitivity and congestion and recommends a facial, a booster or both, with a confirmed price.
  2. Hydrafacial (if chosen). Cleanse, exfoliation, extraction and serum infusion over 30–45 minutes.
  3. Numbing (for boosters). Topical numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes.
  4. Booster injection. Small amounts are placed across the face.
  5. Soothing and aftercare. A calming mask, then written English aftercare.

How long does hydration last, and how do you maintain it?

The biggest practical difference between the two options is how long the result stays with you after you leave Seoul.

  • Hydrafacial: the immediate glow comes from clean pores, removed dead skin and serums sitting in the outer layer. As the skin naturally renews and the serums are used up, the effect fades over one to two weeks. Regular sessions, such as a five-session course, keep the surface consistently clear.
  • HA skin booster: hydration lasts about one to three months, and many people plan a short series of three sessions two to four weeks apart to build and hold the effect.
  • Skinvive and Profhilo: because these products are more stable in the skin, results commonly last around six months, which suits visitors who come to Seoul once or twice a year.

Whatever you choose, daily habits decide how long the result holds. A gentle cleanser, a moisturizer with humectants such as hyaluronic acid or glycerin, daily sunscreen and enough water all help. Harsh scrubs, very hot showers and over-exfoliation do the opposite. If you live in a dry or air-conditioned environment, a richer night cream can make a noticeable difference between treatments.

Are they safe? Side effects to expect

Hydrafacial is very low risk. Some people have brief pinkness, and very sensitive or rosacea-prone skin may feel warm for a few hours. It is usually postponed if you have active cold sores, open wounds or a sunburn.

Skin boosters are generally well tolerated when performed by trained doctors. Expected effects include redness, small raised bumps, mild swelling and occasional bruising. Less commonly, lumps, infection or allergic-type reactions can occur, and HA injections carry a small risk of vascular complications. Boosters should wait during pregnancy or breastfeeding and if there is active infection in the area.

Planning hydration treatments around your Seoul trip

  • Arrival recovery: long flights dehydrate skin. A Hydrafacial on day two is a gentle way to reset, though avoid booking on your arrival day.
  • Booster timing: book boosters early in your trip so small bumps settle before photos.
  • Last day: a Hydrafacial is fine close to departure because there is no downtime.
  • Location: Dernia is in Myeongdong, near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).
  • Book ahead through our consultation form.

Keep the glow after you fly. Cabin air is very dry. Use a simple hydrating moisturizer during the flight and avoid strong exfoliants for a few days. Our skincare routine after treatments guide explains what to use.

Frequently asked questions

Is a skin booster better than a Hydrafacial for dry skin?

Often yes. The facial is usually done first, then the booster. Your doctor will confirm it suits your skin.

How long does a Hydrafacial glow last?

Usually about one to two weeks.

Do skin boosters have downtime?

Minimal. Small bumps and mild redness usually settle within one to two days.

Which booster lasts the longest for hydration?

Among Dernia's options, Skinvive commonly lasts about six months from one session and Profhilo about six months after two sessions. A basic HA skin booster lasts about one to three months.

What do they cost at Dernia?

Aqua Peel starts from ₩69,000, an HA skin booster from ₩99,000 for 2cc, and Skinvive from ₩290,000, all excluding 10% VAT.
