Skin Treatments in Seoul vs Jeju: Options for International Tourists — Myeongdong, Seoul
Skin Treatments in Seoul vs Jeju: Options for International Tourists — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Seoul has a much larger choice of skin clinics, devices and English-speaking doctors than Jeju, which makes it the more practical place for most international tourists to book treatments. Jeju trips usually involve hiking, beaches, wind and strong sun, which do not combine well with fresh lasers or injections. A common plan is to enjoy Jeju first and have treatments in Seoul before flying home. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Hydrafacial starts from ₩69,000, an HA skin booster from ₩99,000 and Shurink Universe from ₩149,000 for 300 shots (excluding 10% VAT).

Seoul to Jeju About 1 hour 10 minutes by air
Clinic choice Much wider in Seoul
Jeju activities Hiking, beaches, strong sun and wind
Best timing Jeju first, treatments in Seoul after
Myeongdong access Line 4, Line 2; AREX via Seoul Station
Dernia price from ₩69,000 (Hydrafacial / Aqua Peel)

Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation. Travel times are approximate.

Seoul or Jeju: where should international tourists get skin treatments?

Jeju is Korea's largest island and a favorite with both domestic and international travelers for its coastline, Hallasan mountain, waterfalls, lava tubes and tangerine farms. It has dermatology and aesthetic clinics, mainly in Jeju City and Seogwipo, that largely serve residents and domestic visitors. Seoul, by contrast, has one of the highest concentrations of skin clinics in the world, many of which offer English consultations and are used to planning around international flights.

For most international tourists, Seoul is the more practical place for skin treatments: there is more choice of devices and doctors, it is easier to find English-language care, and Seoul is usually where you arrive and depart. Jeju is best enjoyed as a place to be outdoors, which is exactly what fresh skin treatments ask you to limit.

That does not mean Jeju clinics are a poor choice for residents or longer stays. If you live in Korea or are spending several weeks on the island, a local doctor you can see repeatedly may be ideal. For a short international trip, though, Seoul usually offers more flexibility.

How do Seoul and Jeju compare for visitors?

Factor Seoul (Myeongdong) Jeju
Number of clinics Very large choice Smaller choice, mainly Jeju City and Seogwipo
English consultations Widely available in visitor areas More limited
Typical activities Shopping, palaces, museums, cafes Hiking, beaches, driving, outdoor sightseeing
Sun and wind exposure Moderate; many indoor options Often high, especially in summer
Getting around Subway; Myeongdong on Line 4 and Line 2 Mostly car or taxi; buses
Departure AREX from Seoul Station to Incheon Domestic flight to Seoul first for most

Why timing matters on a Jeju trip

Jeju's outdoor lifestyle is the main reason to think carefully about timing. After lasers, skin is more prone to sunburn and temporary darkening of pigment. After injections, heat, strenuous hikes, saunas and alcohol can increase swelling and bruising. Strong coastal wind can also irritate freshly treated skin.

Usually fine before Jeju

  • Ultrasound or RF lifting with minimal downtime
  • Botox, at least a day or two before flying
  • Hydrafacial or LDM Water Drop
  • A consultation, with treatments after your return

Better after Jeju

  • Pico toning, laser toning and IPL
  • Fractional lasers or RF microneedling
  • Skin boosters and fillers with bumps or bruising
  • Anything before a Hallasan hike or a beach day

A sample Seoul–Jeju–Seoul plan

  1. Arrive in Seoul. Rest on arrival day. Book a consultation in Myeongdong for day two.
  2. Before flying to Jeju. Optional low-downtime treatments such as Botox or ultrasound lifting.
  3. Jeju, 2–4 days. Enjoy hiking and beaches with strong sun protection.
  4. Back in Seoul. Have sun-sensitive treatments such as toning lasers, IPL or skin boosters.
  5. Last days. Recover, shop and fly home from Incheon.

What to expect at a Seoul clinic visit

If you have never had a skin treatment abroad, it helps to know how a visit usually runs. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, most appointments follow the same pattern, and the whole visit typically takes one to two hours depending on the treatment:

  • Registration. Bring your passport and a list of medicines, allergies and recent treatments.
  • Doctor consultation in English. The doctor examines your skin, asks about your Jeju plans and flight date, explains options and risks, and confirms the plan and price in writing.
  • Preparation. Cleansing, and numbing cream for injections or stronger lasers.
  • Treatment. From around 15 minutes for toning or Hydrafacial to about an hour for lifting.
  • Aftercare. Soothing care, sunscreen and written instructions in English, with a contact for questions.

For more detail, read first visit to a Korean skin clinic.

Looking after your skin on Jeju

Even if you have no treatments planned until after Jeju, protecting your skin there makes later treatments safer. A sunburn or fresh tan can mean postponing lasers, because tanned skin is more likely to react with temporary darkening. Use a high-SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapply it after swimming or sweating, wear a hat on hikes and keep skin moisturized against the wind.

Is it safe? Side effects and precautions

Common effects after Korean skin treatments include temporary redness, dryness, small injection bumps and bruising. Less common risks include temporary pigment changes or, rarely, burns after lasers and devices, lumps after some boosters and, with fillers, the rare but serious risk of vascular occlusion. Botox can uncommonly cause a temporary droop. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infections, recent isotretinoin and blood thinners may mean postponing. A licensed doctor should confirm suitability, and you should know how to contact the clinic if you are on Jeju when a question comes up.

Planning your treatment around a Korea trip

  • Book ahead. Send your whole itinerary, including Jeju dates, through our consultation form.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Rest after the long-haul flight.
  • Easy to reach. Dernia is near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2). From Gimpo Airport, after your Jeju flight, the subway takes about 40–50 minutes. See location and directions.
  • Leave buffer days. Plan injections and stronger lasers two to three days before your international flight.

Hiking Hallasan or hitting the beach? Do it before your laser or booster appointments, not after. If you have had treatment, use high-SPF sunscreen, a hat and gentle skincare. Our aftercare guide explains what to avoid.
