Many of Korea's most popular skin treatments work by prompting your own skin to make more collagen. This guide explains the main types, how they differ, and how to plan them during a visit to Seoul.
Collagen stimulation treatments trigger your skin's own repair process so it builds new collagen over weeks to months. In Korea they fall into three groups: injectable biostimulators such as Juvelook, Lenisna and Sculptra; regenerative boosters such as Rejuran Healer; and energy devices such as Thermage FLX, Ulthera Prime and Potenza. Results are gradual and natural-looking. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, Rejuran Healer starts from ₩259,000 (2cc), Juvelook from ₩299,000 (2cc) and Sculptra from ₩590,000 per vial (KRW, excluding 10% VAT).
Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation.
What is collagen and why does it decline?
Collagen is the main structural protein in the dermis. It gives skin its firmness, thickness and resilience. From our mid-20s, the body gradually produces less collagen each year, and existing collagen is broken down by UV exposure, smoking, pollution and inflammation. The visible result is thinner skin, fine lines, enlarged pores, loss of firmness and, eventually, sagging and volume loss.
Collagen stimulation treatments do not add collagen from outside. Instead, they create a controlled signal that prompts your fibroblasts — the cells that make collagen — to produce more. That is why results appear gradually and tend to look natural.
How do collagen stimulation treatments work?
Each type uses a different trigger:
- Biostimulator particles: injectable microparticles such as PDLLA (Juvelook, Lenisna) or PLLA (Sculptra) cause a mild, controlled tissue response, and collagen forms around them as they are slowly absorbed.
- Regenerative molecules: polynucleotides (Rejuran) support the skin's repair environment, helping improve thickness and elasticity.
- Controlled heat: RF and ultrasound devices heat collagen to a point where it contracts and the skin launches a healing response.
- Controlled micro-injury: RF microneedling and fractional lasers create tiny treated zones that the skin repairs with new collagen.

Juvelook and Lenisna
Juvelook is a Korean collagen stimulator that combines PDLLA with hyaluronic acid. The HA gives early hydration while the PDLLA stimulates collagen over the following months, refining texture and fine lines. Lenisna is a higher-concentration version placed deeper for soft volume. See Juvelook and Lenisna.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a PLLA collagen stimulator made by Galderma. It gradually restores volume and firmness in hollow temples, flattened cheeks and areas of laxity, and results can last up to about two years after a series. Massage is usually advised after treatment. See the Sculptra page and compare in Juvelook vs Sculptra.
Rejuran Healer
Rejuran Healer is a polynucleotide booster from Pharma Research, with PN derived from salmon DNA. It supports repair, skin thickness and elasticity, and is popular for calming sensitive skin. See Rejuran Healer.
Energy-based collagen stimulation
Thermage FLX, Ulthera Prime and Korean devices such as Oligio X stimulate collagen through heat, while Potenza combines microneedling and RF. These are often combined with injectables for a layered result.
A note on PDRN: Dernia does not currently offer PDRN injections as a standalone treatment. If you are interested in regenerative boosters, ask at consultation about Rejuran Healer or exosome therapy as alternatives.
Collagen stimulators vs hyaluronic acid filler
Visitors often ask whether they should choose a collagen stimulator or a filler. The two work in very different ways. Hyaluronic acid filler gives an immediate, visible change by physically adding volume or support, and it can be dissolved if needed. Collagen stimulators work gradually: the product itself is absorbed, and the change comes from the collagen your skin builds in response. The result looks more like improved skin quality and soft, even volume rather than a defined shape.
- Choose filler when you want a specific contour change, such as chin projection, or an immediate result.
- Choose a collagen stimulator when you want better skin quality, soft volume over a wider area or a longer-lasting, gradual improvement.
- Combine them when you need both: many plans use a small amount of filler for structure and a stimulator for overall quality.

Who is a good candidate?
Usually a good fit
- Adults noticing thinner skin, fine lines or loss of firmness
- Mild to moderate volume loss in the temples or cheeks
- Enlarged pores, rough texture or shallow acne scars
- People who prefer gradual, natural-looking change
Talk to the doctor first
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Autoimmune conditions or a history of keloid scarring
- Active infection or inflammation in the area
- Allergy to fish-derived products (for Rejuran)
- Expectation of an immediate result for an event soon
What happens on treatment day
- English consultation. The doctor assesses skin quality, volume and laxity and recommends one treatment or a combination.
- Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes.
- Treatment. Injectables are placed with a fine needle or cannula; energy devices are applied in passes.
- Aftercare. You receive written instructions in English, including massage instructions for Sculptra if relevant.
Results timeline
- First days: small bumps or mild swelling, which fade within one to three days. Early hydration from HA-containing products may be visible.
- Weeks 4–8: collagen production builds, improving texture and firmness.
- Months 2–3: visible improvement for most people; further sessions build on this.
- Long term: durations range from several months for boosters to up to about two years for Sculptra after a series.
Because collagen takes time to form, these treatments are best started early in a planning cycle rather than days before an event. See Juvelook results and Sculptra results.
Risks and side effects
Common, temporary effects of injectable collagen stimulators include small bumps, redness, swelling and bruising. The most important specific risk with particle-based stimulators (PDLLA and PLLA) is nodules — small lumps under the skin — which are more likely if the product is placed too superficially or not mixed correctly. Massage and proper technique reduce this risk. As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection and, rarely, of a product entering a blood vessel. Energy devices can cause redness and swelling and, rarely, burns.
A licensed doctor should choose the product, depth and dilution for your skin. Read does Juvelook cause lumps?
Flying home? Small bumps from boosters and biostimulators usually settle in one to three days, and most people can fly the next day. Read our aftercare guide for travel tips.

Frequently asked questions
How long do collagen stimulators take to work?
Most take four to eight weeks to show visible change, with improvement continuing for two to three months after each session.
What is the difference between Juvelook and Sculptra?
Juvelook uses PDLLA with hyaluronic acid and is mainly used for texture and fine lines, while Sculptra uses PLLA and is mainly used to restore volume. Both stimulate collagen.
Does Dernia offer PDRN injections?
Not as a standalone treatment. The doctor can suggest alternatives such as Rejuran Healer or exosome therapy.
Can collagen stimulators cause lumps?
Particle-based stimulators can occasionally cause nodules, especially if placed too superficially. Correct technique and aftercare reduce this risk.
How many sessions do I need?
Most injectable collagen stimulators work best as two or three sessions, a few weeks apart. Energy devices are usually one session per cycle.
Can I combine collagen treatments with lifting devices?
Yes. Many people combine an energy device with an injectable stimulator, and the doctor plans the order and timing.
