Collagen stimulators rebuild skin structure slowly and last longer, while skin boosters improve hydration and quality faster with shorter longevity. Here is how they compare for visitors to Seoul.
Collagen stimulators, such as Juvelook, Lenisna (Juvelook Volume) and Sculptra, use PDLLA or PLLA particles to make your skin build new collagen. Results appear over two to three months and commonly last 12 months to about two years after a series. Skin boosters, such as HA boosters, Skinvive, Profhilo and Rejuran, improve hydration, glow and skin quality faster, usually lasting about one to six months. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, Juvelook starts from ₩299,000, Sculptra from ₩590,000 and HA skin boosters from ₩99,000, excluding 10% VAT.
Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation.
Collagen stimulators vs skin boosters: what is the difference?
Both are injectables that improve skin without surgery, and both are popular in Seoul. The key difference is what they do once inside the skin.
- Collagen stimulators(also called biostimulators) contain biodegradable particles, such as PDLLA in Juvelook and Lenisna or PLLA in Sculptra. These particles trigger your body to produce new collagen. The improvement comes from your own tissue and builds over months.
- Skin boosters deliver an ingredient that improves the skin directly. Hyaluronic acid (HA) boosters bind water for hydration and glow. Polynucleotide (PN) boosters, such as Rejuran, support the skin's repair environment.
Put simply, stimulators rebuild structure slowly and boosters improve quality more quickly. See our skin boosters explained guide for more on the booster family.
Which treatments belong to each group?
| Treatment at Dernia | Group | Main use |
|---|---|---|
| Juvelook | Collagen stimulator (PDLLA + HA) | Texture, pores, fine lines, shallow scars |
| Lenisna (Juvelook Volume) | Collagen stimulator (PDLLA) | Soft volume in temples, cheeks, hollows |
| Sculptra | Collagen stimulator (PLLA) | Volume loss and laxity |
| HA skin booster | Skin booster (HA) | Hydration and glow |
| Skinvive | Skin booster (HA) | Smoothness and glow on the cheeks |
| Profhilo | Skin booster (HA) | Hydration and firmness |
| Rejuran Healer | Skin booster (PN) | Repair, elasticity, calm |
How long do results last?
Longevity is often the deciding factor, so here is the typical range for each treatment.
| Treatment | Typical plan | Results commonly last |
|---|---|---|
| Juvelook | 2–3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart | 12+ months after a series |
| Lenisna | 1–2 sessions, 4–8 weeks apart | About 12–24 months |
| Sculptra | 2–3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart | Up to about 2 years |
| HA skin booster | Often 3, 2–4 weeks apart | About 1–3 months |
| Skinvive | Usually 1 | About 6 months |
| Profhilo | 2, about 4 weeks apart | About 6 months |
| Rejuran Healer | 3, 2–4 weeks apart | Maintenance about every 6 months |
Typical ranges, not guarantees. Age, sun exposure, smoking and skincare all affect longevity.
How do the results look different?
- Collagen stimulators: early fullness is mostly swelling and fades within one to two weeks. The real change appears gradually over two to three months as collagen builds. Results look natural because your own tissue creates them, and they can add firmness, thickness and, with Lenisna or Sculptra, soft volume.
- Skin boosters: once small bumps settle, HA boosters give visible hydration and glow within about one to two weeks. PN boosters improve calmness and elasticity more gradually over a series. Neither adds meaningful volume.
See the Sculptra results timeline and Juvelook results timeline for more detail.
Which should you choose?
A collagen stimulator may suit you if
- You want longer-lasting improvement
- You have pores, texture or shallow scars (Juvelook)
- You have hollows or volume loss (Lenisna, Sculptra)
- You are patient and can do a series
A skin booster may suit you if
- You want visible glow within weeks
- Your skin is dull, dry or dehydrated (HA)
- Your skin is sensitive or thin (PN)
- You prefer gentle, low-risk maintenance
A common plan in Seoul is to use a collagen stimulator for long-term structure and a booster on top for hydration and glow. Our Collagen Rebuild Package brings these together.
What makes results last longer?
Whichever group you choose, the same factors decide how long your result stays visible. Some are within your control, and some are not.
- Sun protection. UV exposure breaks down collagen and hyaluronic acid. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is the single most effective way to protect any injectable result.
- Smoking and alcohol. Both accelerate collagen loss and dehydrate skin, shortening results.
- Metabolism and age. People with a faster metabolism or more active lifestyles sometimes find HA products fade sooner. Older skin may respond more slowly to collagen stimulators, which is why doctors may recommend an extra session.
- Completing the series. Stopping after one session of a three-session plan usually gives a shorter and smaller result than the full course.
- Skincare. A gentle routine with a moisturizer and, when appropriate, retinoids or antioxidants supports collagen and hydration between treatments.
Maintenance is also part of the picture. Collagen stimulators typically need a top-up every one to two years, while boosters are often repeated every few months. Planning maintenance around regular trips to Seoul is a common approach for international visitors. Our skincare routine after treatments guide covers daily habits in more detail.
What happens on treatment day
- English consultation. A licensed doctor examines your skin quality and volume, explains which group suits your goals and confirms the plan and price.
- Preparation. Collagen stimulators are mixed and hydrated carefully before use, which matters for smooth results.
- Numbing. Topical numbing cream for 30–40 minutes.
- Injection. Boosters and Juvelook are placed in many small points; Lenisna and Sculptra are placed deeper, often with a cannula.
- Aftercare. Written English aftercare, including massage instructions for Sculptra.
Risks and side effects
Both groups are widely used and generally well tolerated when performed by trained doctors. Common, temporary effects include redness, swelling, small bumps and bruising.
- Collagen stimulators: the main specific risk is nodules or lumps, usually linked to superficial placement, uneven distribution or inadequate mixing. They cannot be dissolved like HA, so technique matters. Read does Juvelook cause lumps.
- Skin boosters: lower structural risk; HA products can usually be dissolved if needed. PN boosters are salmon-derived, so mention any fish allergy.
- All injectables: rare infection, allergic-type reactions and vascular complications.
- Wait if: pregnant or breastfeeding, active skin infection, or autoimmune disease or keloid tendency (for stimulators) without discussing it first.

Frequently asked questions
Do collagen stimulators last longer than skin boosters?
Usually yes. Collagen stimulators commonly last 12 months to about two years after a series, while skin boosters usually last about one to six months.
Which works faster?
Skin boosters, especially HA boosters, usually show within one to two weeks. Collagen stimulators build gradually over two to three months.
Is Rejuran a collagen stimulator?
Rejuran is usually classed as a skin booster. It uses polynucleotides to support skin repair rather than particles that trigger a collagen response.
Can I combine a collagen stimulator with a skin booster?
Yes. Many plans use a stimulator for structure and a booster for hydration and glow. Your doctor decides the timing.
Can collagen stimulators be dissolved?
No. Unlike hyaluronic acid, PDLLA and PLLA cannot be dissolved, which is why careful technique and gradual sessions matter.
What are the prices at Dernia?
