Myeongdong vs Dongdaemun Skin Clinics: A Guide for International Visitors — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Myeongdong and Dongdaemun are both in central Seoul, around 10–15 minutes apart by subway, so either works as a base for skin treatments. Dongdaemun is known for fashion wholesale markets, Dongdaemun Design Plaza and late-night shopping, while Myeongdong is the main K-beauty and hotel district near Namsan and the palaces. Choose the clinic by its doctor, products and English aftercare rather than the area. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Rejuran Healer starts from ₩259,000 for 2cc and laser toning from ₩49,000 per session (excluding 10% VAT).

Myeongdong vs Dongdaemun: the quick comparison

Dongdaemun, around the historic Great East Gate, is famous for its fashion wholesale and retail malls, many open late into the night, and for Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) with its striking curved architecture. It also has many mid-range hotels and guesthouses popular with visitors from across Asia. Myeongdong, a short ride west, is Seoul's best-known K-beauty shopping street, with large hotels, street food and easy walks to Namsan, City Hall and Cheonggyecheon.

Because the two areas are so close, the choice between them is less about geography and more about the clinic you trust. A careful, doctor-led consultation and clear aftercare in English will make far more difference to your experience than an extra subway stop.

What should international visitors look for in a skin clinic?

Seoul's skin clinics range from small neighborhood dermatology practices to large aesthetic centers. Whether you are in Dongdaemun or Myeongdong, these points matter most for a visitor:

  • A doctor-led consultation. A licensed doctor should examine your skin, ask about your health and medicines and explain the risks before you agree a plan.
  • Clear communication. Consultations and written aftercare in a language you understand, so you know what to do once you leave Korea.
  • Itemized pricing. Prices that state the brand, the number of units, shots or cc and whether 10% VAT is included.
  • Genuine products. Sealed syringes and device tips opened in front of you.
  • A way to follow up. A contact method that works from your home country.

At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, consultations, plans and aftercare are in English. Read first visit to a Korean skin clinic for what to expect.

It also helps to prepare a few details before your appointment. Write down any medicines and supplements you take, previous injections or lasers with approximate dates, allergies, and whether you have had cold sores or keloid scars. Bring your passport for registration, and arrive with a clean face if you can. If you use retinoids or strong acids at home, ask whether to pause them a few days before lasers. Clear information lets the doctor choose safer settings and a plan that matches the time you have left in Seoul.

Which treatments do visitors choose most?

The same core treatments are offered across central Seoul. Visitors staying in Dongdaemun or Myeongdong most often ask about:

  • Brightening and tone: laser toning, pico toning and IPL photofacial for dullness, freckles and uneven tone.
  • Glow and hydration: Rejuran Healer, HA skin boosters and Hydrafacial.
  • Expression lines and jawline: wrinkle Botox and jaw Botox.
  • Lifting: ultrasound devices such as Shurink Universe and Ulthera Prime, or RF such as Thermage FLX.

Dernia does not offer chemical peels as a standalone service; ask at consultation about alternatives such as Hydrafacial or laser toning for brightness.

Who are these treatments right for?

Usually a good fit

  • Healthy adults wanting brighter, smoother or firmer skin
  • Visitors with a few free hours and a flexible schedule
  • People who can follow sun protection after lasers
  • Those with realistic, gradual goals

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active acne flare, cold sores or skin infection
  • Recent isotretinoin, blood thinners or a tendency to keloids
  • A fresh tan or plans for heavy sun exposure

What happens during a clinic visit?

  1. Send your details. Share your concerns, photos and travel dates in advance.
  2. Consultation. A doctor examines your skin in person, recommends options and confirms the price.
  3. Preparation. Cleansing and numbing cream if needed.
  4. Treatment. From around 10 minutes for toning to about an hour for lifting.
  5. Aftercare. A soothing mask, sunscreen and written aftercare in English.

How much do skin treatments cost in Myeongdong (2026)?

Prices in Dongdaemun and Myeongdong vary by clinic rather than by area. When you compare, ask for the brand, the number of shots, units or cc, the number of sessions and whether VAT is included. Since January 1, 2026, the tourist VAT refund no longer applies to cosmetic procedures.

Is it safe? Side effects and recovery

Popular Korean skin treatments are generally safe in trained hands, but they are medical procedures. Expect brief redness after toning lasers and small injection bumps for one to three days after boosters. IPL can make brown spots darken and flake for about a week before they fade. Uncommon risks include bruising, temporary pigment changes or blistering after lasers, and lumps after some injectables. Protect treated skin from the sun, skip saunas and alcohol for a day or two after injections, and contact the clinic if pain, swelling or redness gets worse rather than better. See aftercare after laser treatment.

Shopping and sightseeing after treatment

Both areas make it tempting to go straight from the clinic to the shops. That is usually fine after gentle treatments, with a few sensible adjustments. Dongdaemun's malls are busy and warm late at night, and walking through crowds with freshly injected skin is not ideal, so keep the evening after injections relaxed. In Myeongdong, many people stock up on sunscreen, gentle cleansers and barrier creams after a laser session. Avoid testing strong acids, retinoids or scrubs on treated skin for at least a few days. See K-beauty shopping after treatment for a shopping list that is safe for recovering skin.
