Myeongdong vs Itaewon Skin Clinics: English Consultation and Treatment Options — Myeongdong, Seoul
Myeongdong vs Itaewon Skin Clinics: English Consultation and Treatment Options — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Itaewon in Yongsan-gu is known for its international community, and some clinics there are used to English-speaking patients. Myeongdong, in central Seoul, also has doctor-led clinics that consult in English and see many international visitors, with a wide range of Korean aesthetic treatments. What matters is whether the doctor, not only the front desk, can explain your plan and risks in English. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong provides English consultations and written aftercare; wrinkle Botox starts from ₩39,000 per area and Rejuran Healer from ₩259,000 for 2cc (excluding 10% VAT).

Itaewon vs Myeongdong: which has better English-speaking skin clinics?

Itaewon grew up around the former US Army base in Yongsan and has been Seoul's most international neighborhood for decades, with embassies, global restaurants and a large expat community nearby. Some medical clinics there have long served English-speaking residents, so it is natural that many visitors search for skin clinics in Itaewon first.

Today, though, English-language care is far more widespread. Myeongdong, the central shopping and hotel district, sees international visitors every day, and several doctor-led clinics consult in English. Neither area guarantees good English communication; the only way to know is to ask whether the doctor will speak with you directly and whether aftercare is written in English. A quick message before you book usually tells you a lot.

How do the two areas compare?

Factor Myeongdong Itaewon
District Jung-gu, central Seoul Yongsan-gu, south of Namsan
Subway Myeongdong (Line 4), Euljiro 1-ga (Line 2) Itaewon (Line 6)
Typical patients Tourists from many countries and local office workers Expat residents and visitors
Nearby Namsan, palaces, K-beauty stores, hotels Restaurants, bars, Hannam-dong, Leeum Museum
Airport access AREX to Seoul Station, then two stops on Line 4 Airport buses, or AREX plus transfers

What does a good English consultation look like?

A good consultation is more than translated prices. For a medical treatment in a foreign country, you should be able to understand and ask about:

  • Your diagnosis. What the doctor sees, such as laxity, pigment type or volume loss, and why.
  • Options and alternatives. Including doing nothing, and the trade-offs of each choice.
  • Risks. Common side effects and rarer complications, explained plainly.
  • The exact plan. Product or device name, units, shots or cc, and the final price.
  • Aftercare. Written instructions you can follow at home, and a contact who replies in English.

At Dernia, a licensed doctor consults with you in English and sets the plan before anything begins. See do you offer English consultations and questions to ask at your consultation.

Which treatment options are available?

Treatment menus are broadly similar across Seoul. Korean clinics in Itaewon, Myeongdong and elsewhere commonly offer:

  • Lifting: Ulthera Prime, Shurink Universe, Thermage FLX, Oligio X and thread lifts.
  • Skin boosters: Rejuran Healer, Juvelook, Skinvive, Profhilo and HA boosters.
  • Injectables: wrinkle Botox, jaw and trap Botox, dermal and lip filler.
  • Lasers: pico toning, laser toning, IPL, Excel V and fractional lasers.
  • Acne and texture: acne programs, Potenza RF microneedling and Agnes.

Dernia does not currently offer PDRN injections, Sofwave or surgery. If you ask about these, the doctor can explain alternatives with similar goals.

Which treatments suit first-time visitors?

Good starting points

  • Pico or laser toning for dullness and uneven tone
  • HA skin booster or Rejuran Healer for glow and texture
  • Wrinkle Botox for forehead or frown lines
  • Shurink Universe for a light, no-downtime lift

Think carefully first

  • Under-eye or nose-area filler (higher-risk areas)
  • Strong resurfacing lasers with several days of downtime
  • Multiple new treatments on the same day
  • Anything booked for the day before your flight

Under-eye filler carries risks including lumps, swelling and, rarely, vascular occlusion, which can affect skin and, very rarely, vision. It should only be performed by an experienced doctor after a careful assessment.

When will you see results?

Understanding the timeline helps you judge your result fairly, especially when the peak arrives after you have flown home. These ranges are typical, not guarantees:

  • Wrinkle Botox: starts working in two to five days, reaches full effect in about two weeks and usually lasts three to four months.
  • HA skin booster: skin looks more hydrated within days once small bumps settle; the effect usually lasts one to three months.
  • Rejuran Healer: texture and resilience improve gradually over several weeks, with best results after a short series.
  • Pico toning: skin often looks brighter after one session, but pigment concerns such as melasma need a series.
  • Ultrasound lifting: a subtle lift builds over two to three months.

Take clear photos in the same light before treatment and again a few weeks later. If something does not look as expected, contact the clinic in English rather than seeking a correction elsewhere straight away, so the original doctor can review what was done.

What happens on the day

  1. Arrive and register. Bring your passport and a list of medicines and past treatments.
  2. English consultation. The doctor examines your skin and explains the plan, risks and price.
  3. Numbing if needed. Usually 20–40 minutes before injections or lasers.
  4. Treatment. From about 10 minutes for Botox to an hour for lifting.
  5. Written aftercare. In English, with a contact for questions after you leave.

How much do treatments cost in Myeongdong (2026)?

Clinics set their own prices, so district is not a good predictor. Compare written quotes with the same product, units and VAT treatment. These are Dernia's 2026 prices for popular choices:

Treatment Plan Price (KRW)
Wrinkle Botox 1 area: Korean / Xeomin / Allergan ₩39,000 / ₩79,000 / ₩99,000
Rejuran Healer 2cc full face ₩259,000
HA skin booster 2cc full face ₩99,000
Pico toning 1 full-face session ₩69,000
Under-eye filler 1cc Korean HA ₩290,000

Prices exclude 10% VAT. The tourist VAT refund on cosmetic procedures ended on January 1, 2026 — see VAT refund on cosmetic procedures. Full list on our price page.

Is it safe? Risks and side effects

Common effects after Korean skin treatments are temporary: redness, swelling, small injection bumps and occasional bruising. Botox can cause headaches or, uncommonly, a temporary droop of the brow or eyelid. Lasers can rarely cause burns or temporary darkening of pigment. Fillers carry a rare risk of vascular occlusion, which needs urgent treatment. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infections, blood thinners and some autoimmune conditions may mean waiting. A licensed doctor should confirm suitability, and you should know who to contact after you leave. Read side effects and when to contact us.

Planning your treatment around a Seoul trip

  • Book ahead. Share your dates and concerns through our consultation form.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Give yourself a night to rest and rehydrate.
  • From Itaewon. Take Line 6 to Samgakji and change to Line 4 for Myeongdong, or take a short taxi ride over Namsan; allow 20–30 minutes. See location and directions.
  • Night out planned? Avoid alcohol for at least a day after injections; it can increase swelling and bruising.
  • Flying home. Plan injectables two to three days before departure.

Not sure what to ask? Bring a short list: the product name, units or cc, side effects to watch for, and who to contact once you are home. Our appointment preparation guide has a checklist in English.
