Yeouido vs Myeongdong: what is the difference?

Yeouido is an island in the Han River in Yeongdeungpo-gu, sometimes called Seoul's Manhattan. It is home to the stock exchange, major banks, broadcasting companies and the National Assembly, as well as Yeouido Hangang Park and The Hyundai Seoul department store. Weekday life revolves around office towers, and many local clinics are designed for quick lunchtime or after-work visits.

Myeongdong, in Jung-gu, is the busiest tourist district in central Seoul, with hotels, K-beauty stores and street food, and is close to Namsan, the palaces and Seoul Station. Clinics here see visitors from many countries throughout the week, including weekends, and are used to planning around flight dates.

How do the two areas compare for visitors?

Factor Myeongdong Yeouido
Location Central Seoul, north of the Han Island in the Han River, west-central Seoul
Subway Myeongdong (Line 4), Euljiro 1-ga (Line 2) Yeouido (Lines 5, 9), Yeouinaru (Line 5)
Airport access AREX to Seoul Station, then Line 4 Line 9 express to Gimpo; Line 9 connects to AREX
Patients International visitors and local workers Mainly local office workers
Weekend atmosphere Busy with shoppers and tourists Quieter, except park and festival days
Nearby Namsan, palaces, Cheonggyecheon Hangang Park, The Hyundai Seoul, cherry blossom road

Which Korean aesthetic treatments are available in each area?

Korean aesthetic medicine is known for combining devices, injectables and skin quality treatments into gentle, natural-looking plans. You will find the same core options in Yeouido and Myeongdong; individual clinics differ in their equipment, products and doctors. Popular choices include:

  • Jaw and wrinkle Botox for a slimmer lower face or softer expression lines. See jaw Botox.
  • Skin Botox (micro Botox) for smoother texture, smaller-looking pores and less oiliness.
  • Skin boosters such as Rejuran Healer, Juvelook and HA boosters for glow and resilience.
  • Toning lasers such as pico toning and laser toning for dullness and uneven tone.
  • Ultrasound and RF lifting such as Shurink Universe, Ulthera Prime and Thermage FLX.

Read the Korean approach to aesthetics to understand why plans in Seoul often combine several gentle treatments rather than one strong one.

Which plan suits a business trip vs a holiday?

Business trip (little downtime)

  • Wrinkle or jaw Botox early in the week
  • Laser or pico toning at lunchtime
  • Shurink Universe for a light lift
  • Hydrafacial before an important meeting

Save for a holiday with free days

  • Fillers that can bruise or swell
  • Skin boosters with visible bumps for 1–3 days
  • Fractional lasers or RF microneedling
  • Combining several injectables at once

For working travelers, our Express Lunch-Break Glow package is designed around a short visit.

What happens on treatment day

  1. English consultation. A doctor examines your skin, asks about your schedule and agrees the plan and price.
  2. Numbing. Cream for 20–40 minutes where needed; Botox often needs little or none.
  3. Treatment. Botox takes about 10–15 minutes; toning 10–20 minutes; lifting up to an hour.
  4. Soothing and aftercare. A calming mask and written instructions in English.

Results: what to expect and when

Korean aesthetic treatments are designed for gradual, natural change. Wrinkle Botox starts working in a few days and peaks around two weeks, lasting about three to four months. Jaw Botox slims the lower face gradually over four to eight weeks and usually lasts four to six months. Shurink Universe gives a subtle lift over the following weeks that usually lasts three to six months, while toning lasers brighten skin progressively over a series. Results vary between people, and your doctor will set expectations at consultation.

How much do Korean aesthetic treatments cost in Myeongdong (2026)?

Clinic prices in Yeouido and Myeongdong depend on the clinic, brand and dose, not the district. Compare written plans with identical units and check whether VAT is included. Dernia's 2026 prices:

Treatment Plan Price (KRW)
Jaw Botox Korean toxin / Coretox, both sides ₩59,000 / ₩99,000
Wrinkle Botox 3 areas, Korean toxin ₩99,000
Skin Botox Full face, Korean toxin ₩129,000
Shurink Universe 300 / 600 shots ₩149,000 / ₩259,000
Laser toning 1 session ₩49,000

Prices exclude 10% VAT. The tourist VAT refund on cosmetic procedures ended on January 1, 2026 — see payment and tax and the full price list.

How to choose a clinic in Yeouido or Myeongdong

Clinics that mainly serve local office workers can be efficient and well run, but they may not be set up for patients who will leave Korea a few days later. Clinics in tourist areas see more visitors but vary widely in how much time the doctor spends with each patient. Wherever you go, a few questions help you judge quality quickly:

  • Will the doctor examine me and perform the treatment? Ask who sets the plan and who holds the needle or device.
  • Which brand and how much? Ask for the toxin brand and units, the booster and cc, or the device and shots in writing.
  • What if I have a problem after I fly home? Check that you can contact the clinic by email or messaging app and receive a reply in English.
  • Is VAT included? Make sure all quotes you compare are on the same basis.

Is it safe? Side effects to know

These treatments are generally well tolerated when performed by trained medical staff, but every one carries some risk. Botox can cause small bruises, a mild headache or, uncommonly, a temporary droop or asymmetry; jaw Botox can make chewing feel weaker for a few weeks. Ultrasound lifting can leave tenderness along the jaw and, rarely, temporary nerve irritation. Lasers can rarely cause burns or temporary pigment changes. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, neuromuscular conditions, blood thinners or recent procedures. A licensed doctor confirms suitability before treatment. See is Korean Botox safe.

Planning your treatment around a Seoul trip

  • Book ahead. Send your dates, including meeting days, through our consultation form.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Rest after the flight and book on day two or later.
  • From Yeouido. Take Line 5 to Chungjeongno or Gwanghwamun and walk or connect toward Euljiro, or Line 5 to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park and Line 4 back to Myeongdong; allow 25–35 minutes. See location and directions.
  • Weekends. If your weekdays are full of meetings, a Saturday appointment in Myeongdong can work well; ask about availability when you book.
  • Flying home. Plan injections two to three days before departure.

Meetings straight after? Botox and toning usually leave only faint marks that makeup can cover the next day. Avoid rubbing the treated area and skip the gym that evening. Our aftercare guide explains the details.
