Oligio X Skin Tightening: How Korean RF Lifting Works — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Oligio X is a Korean monopolar radiofrequency (RF) device by Wontech that heats the deep dermis to tighten skin and stimulate new collagen on the face, jawline, eye area and neck. It works on the same principle as Thermage, is priced by shots and has little or no downtime, so most visitors return to sightseeing the same day. Results build over one to three months and usually last six to twelve months. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, Oligio X starts from ₩390,000 for 300 shots and ₩690,000 for 600 shots (KRW, excluding 10% VAT).

What is Oligio X?

Oligio X is a skin-tightening device developed in Korea by Wontech. It uses monopolar radiofrequency, a form of electrical energy that turns into heat as it passes through the deeper layers of the skin. That controlled heat makes existing collagen contract and then signals the skin to produce new collagen over the following weeks and months.

Oligio X is the upgraded version of the original Oligio. It is designed for more even heating and greater comfort, with tips for the face and the delicate eye area. Read more on our Oligio X treatment page.

How does Korean RF lifting work?

Radiofrequency devices heat tissue by resistance rather than by focusing energy at a single point. The practical result is a broad, even warmth through the dermis instead of the pinpoint heat used by ultrasound devices such as Ulthera or Shurink.

  • Immediate contraction: heated collagen fibers shorten, giving a slightly firmer feel on the day.
  • Collagen remodeling: new collagen and elastin form over one to three months, improving firmness and texture.
  • Surface protection: the tip cools the skin surface while heat builds underneath, which protects the outer layer.
  • Shot-based delivery: each shot is one pulse of energy. More shots mean wider coverage or extra passes over loose areas.

Because RF works in the dermis, it is best for tightening the skin itself — crepiness, mild looseness and texture. Ultrasound targets deeper structural layers for lift. Our HIFU vs RF lifting comparison explains when each makes sense.

Oligio X vs Thermage FLX: what is the difference?

Oligio X is often described as a Korean alternative to Thermage FLX. Both are monopolar RF devices that are priced by shots and aim for the same outcome: tighter, firmer skin with no real downtime. The main practical differences are price, tip design and how long results tend to last.

Feature Oligio X Thermage FLX
Technology Monopolar RF Monopolar RF
Made in Korea United States
Typical result duration About 6–12 months About 12–18 months
Dernia price, 600 shots ₩690,000 ₩1,690,000

Many people choose Oligio X for a lower cost per session and repeat it more often, while others choose Thermage for a single, longer-lasting session. See Thermage FLX vs Oligio X for a full comparison.

What happens on Oligio X treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor assesses your skin laxity and thickness and agrees the shot plan and price.
  2. Cleansing and numbing. Topical numbing cream is applied for around 30 minutes.
  3. Treatment. The doctor passes the tip across each zone. You feel short pulses of heat followed by cooling; energy is adjusted to your comfort.
  4. Soothing. A calming mask settles any redness before you leave.

Oligio X results: what to expect and when

Most people notice skin feels slightly firmer on the day. The more meaningful change develops as new collagen forms.

  • Day 0: mild redness that fades within a few hours; slight tightness.
  • Weeks 2–4: early firming and smoother texture.
  • Months 1–3: peak result for most people.
  • Months 6–12: gradual fading; time to plan a maintenance session.

Results vary with age, skin quality and lifestyle. Read the Oligio X results guide for more detail.

How to get the most from your result

Collagen remodeling continues long after you leave Seoul, so the habits you keep at home matter. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is the single most useful step, because UV exposure breaks down the collagen your skin is building. Not smoking, sleeping well and using a gentle, hydrating skincare routine all support the process. If you use retinoids or exfoliating acids, ask the doctor when to restart them; most people pause them for a few days around treatment.

It also helps to take clear photos in the same lighting before treatment and again at one and three months. RF tightening is gradual, and side-by-side photos show change that is hard to notice day to day.

Choosing the right number of shots

Shot count depends on the size of the area and how loose the skin is. A smaller, focused plan suits people mainly concerned with one zone, such as the jawline or the eyes. A full-face plan allows multiple passes over the cheeks and jawline, and a larger plan can extend to the neck. Your doctor recommends a plan after examining you rather than defaulting to the largest option.

Is Oligio X safe? Risks and side effects

Oligio X is generally well tolerated when performed by trained medical staff. Common, temporary effects include redness, mild swelling and slight tenderness. Less commonly, RF treatments can cause small blisters or temporary areas of sensitivity if heat builds up in one spot. Very rarely, excess heat could affect fat beneath the skin. A doctor-led energy plan, proper cooling and genuine single-use tips reduce these risks.

Avoid saunas, very hot baths and intense workouts for a day or two, keep skin moisturized and apply sunscreen daily. Contact the clinic if blistering, persistent pain or unusual changes appear. Our page on side effects and when to contact us explains what is normal.

Flying home? Oligio X involves no injections or wounds, so most people can fly the next day. Check our aftercare guide for travel tips in English.

Frequently asked questions

Is Oligio X the same as Thermage?

No. Both are monopolar RF tightening devices, but Oligio X is made in Korea by Wontech, while Thermage FLX is made in the United States. Oligio X typically costs less per session, and Thermage results tend to last longer.

Does Oligio X hurt?

Most people feel brief pulses of heat that are manageable with numbing cream and built-in cooling. The doctor can adjust the energy during treatment.

How long do Oligio X results last?

Results usually last about six to twelve months. Many people repeat a session once or twice a year.

Can Oligio X treat the eyelids?

Yes, there is a dedicated eye tip for the area around the eyes. Your doctor confirms whether it suits your eyelid skin at consultation.

Is there downtime after Oligio X?

Usually none. Mild redness tends to fade within a few hours, and most people return to normal plans the same day.

Can I combine Oligio X with Ulthera or Shurink?

Yes. RF tightens the skin, while ultrasound lifts deeper layers, so they are often combined. Your doctor plans the order and energy levels.
