Quick answer

Oligio X and Volnewmer are both Korean monopolar radiofrequency (RF) devices that heat the deep dermis to tighten skin and stimulate collagen, with little or no downtime and results that usually last about 6–12 months. Oligio X is made by Wontech; Volnewmer is made by Classys, the company behind Shurink, and uses a water-cooled tip to protect the surface. In practice, results are similar, and the choice often comes down to comfort, the areas treated and your doctor's preference. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, both start from ₩390,000 for 300 shots, excluding 10% VAT.

Oligio X vs Volnewmer: what is the difference?

Both devices are Korean-made monopolar radiofrequency (RF) skin tighteners. They deliver RF energy that turns into heat in the deep dermis, causing collagen fibers to contract and prompting new collagen to form over the following months. Both protect the skin surface with cooling, are priced by shots and need little or no downtime.

Because the underlying principle is the same, the differences are mainly about tip design, cooling, energy delivery and comfort, and about which device your doctor knows best for your type of skin. Both are often described as Korean alternatives to Thermage, offering a similar type of tightening at a lower price per session. For background, see Korean lifting treatments explained.

How does Oligio X work?

Oligio X is made by Wontech. It delivers monopolar RF through a treatment tip in a series of pulses, heating the deep dermis while the surface is cooled. It is used on the full face, jawline and neck, and can be used around the eyes at the doctor's discretion. Many people describe it as comfortable for an RF device. Results build over one to three months and usually last around six to twelve months. See the Oligio X page.

How does Volnewmer work?

Volnewmer is made by Classys, the Korean company that also makes Shurink. Its treatment tip is cooled by circulating water, which protects the surface while heat reaches the deeper dermis. This cooling design is intended to keep the treatment comfortable and the heating even. Like Oligio X, it is used for overall facial tightening, the jawline and neck, and results usually last about six to twelve months. See the Volnewmer page.

Which gives better results?

For most people, the results are very similar: firmer, smoother-looking skin, a slightly crisper jawline and improved texture, developing gradually over one to three months. Neither device adds volume or lifts heavy sagging; they tighten the skin itself.

Small differences sometimes guide the choice:

  • Comfort: both are generally well tolerated. Some people find one more comfortable than the other, which is personal.
  • Coverage: Volnewmer has a 1,000-shot plan for face and neck with extra passes; Oligio X plans run in 300-shot steps.
  • Combination with HIFU: Volnewmer and Shurink come from the same maker, and some clinics pair them, but any RF device can be combined with HIFU when appropriate.

Your doctor will recommend the device and number of shots after examining your skin thickness and laxity. Typical timelines are on the Oligio X results and Volnewmer results pages.

Oligio X or Volnewmer vs Thermage FLX

Many visitors ask how these Korean devices compare with Thermage FLX. All three are monopolar RF. Thermage has the longest international track record and its results commonly last about 12–18 months, while Oligio X and Volnewmer usually last around 6–12 months at a lower price per session. Some people choose Thermage once a year; others prefer a Korean RF device once or twice a year. See Thermage FLX vs Oligio X and Thermage FLX vs Volnewmer.

Who is a good candidate?

Usually a good fit

  • Adults with mild to moderate skin laxity
  • Crepey texture or skin that feels less firm
  • A softening jawline or loose neck skin
  • People wanting regular tightening without downtime

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Heavy sagging or excess skin
  • Active infection, open wounds or recent procedures in the area

What happens on treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor examines your skin, explains which device suits you and agrees the number of shots and the price before anything starts.
  2. Cleansing and numbing. Numbing cream is applied, usually for around 30 minutes.
  3. Marking. A grid or zones may be marked so the energy is spread evenly.
  4. Treatment. The tip is placed pulse by pulse over each area. You feel warmth that builds and then fades as cooling works. Energy is adjusted to your comfort.
  5. Soothing. Redness is calmed and you receive written aftercare in English.

Is it safe? Risks and side effects

Monopolar RF is a well-established technology and both devices are widely used in Korea. When performed under medical supervision, side effects are usually mild and short-lived: redness and warmth for a few hours, and sometimes slight swelling or tenderness over the jaw and cheekbones for a few days. Uncommonly, small blisters, temporary bumps or tingling can occur. Rarely, uneven heating can cause burns or contour changes, which is why the device should be used by trained staff with genuine tips and settings chosen for your skin. Contact the clinic promptly if you notice blistering, worsening pain or numbness that does not settle.

When comparing clinics, check the same basics for either device: a licensed doctor should examine you and set the plan, the shot count should be agreed in advance and visible on the device, and you should receive written aftercare in English. Be cautious of very low headline prices that may cover fewer shots or a smaller area than you expect. Our guide on shots, lines and cc explains how Korean clinics price these treatments.
