Potenza RF Microneedling in Korea: Benefits and Recovery — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Potenza is a radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device from Cynosure. Fine needles enter the skin to a set depth and release RF energy at their tips, heating deeper layers to stimulate collagen while the surface stays largely intact. It is used for acne scars, large pores, rough texture and active acne. Expect 2–4 days of redness, with results building over one to three months; most people plan about three sessions. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong in Seoul, Potenza starts from ₩299,000 for the full face (KRW, excluding 10% VAT).

Treatment type RF microneedling
Session time 40–60 minutes including numbing
Downtime 2–4 days of redness
Sessions Usually about 3, 4–6 weeks apart
Results Build over 1–3 months
Price in Seoul From ₩299,000 (full face)

What is Potenza RF microneedling?

Potenza is a radiofrequency microneedling system made by Cynosure. It combines two well-known techniques. Microneedling creates tiny controlled channels in the skin, and radiofrequency delivers heat. In Potenza, the energy is released at the tips of fine needles, so heat is delivered directly to the depth the doctor chooses rather than passing through the surface first.

That targeted heat triggers a wound-healing response that produces new collagen and elastin. Because the outer skin is mostly spared, recovery is shorter than with ablative lasers, and the treatment can often be used on a wider range of skin tones. The needle depth can be adjusted across the face, so thinner and thicker areas can be treated differently in one session. See our Potenza treatment page for device details.

What can Potenza treat?

  • Acne scars. Particularly rolling scars and some boxcar scars, which become shallower as collagen rebuilds. See acne scars.
  • Large pores. Firmer surrounding skin can make pores look smaller. See large pores.
  • Rough texture and fine lines. Overall smoothness and firmness improve over a series.
  • Active acne. RF heat delivered at the right depth can calm overactive oil glands; your doctor decides whether this suits your acne.
  • Booster delivery. The microchannels can help skin boosters penetrate after treatment.

Key benefits of Potenza in Korea

1. Deep collagen with a protected surface

Heat goes where it is needed, so the dermis remodels while the epidermis stays largely intact. That is the main reason downtime is shorter than with CO2 fractional laser.

2. Adjustable to skin type

Because energy is not absorbed by pigment in the way some lasers are, RF microneedling is often considered for people with darker skin or a history of dark marks after laser, with appropriate settings.

3. Multiple concerns at once

One session can target scars, pores and texture across the face, which suits visitors who want to make the most of a single appointment.

4. Combines well

Potenza is often paired with a booster or exosome therapy to support recovery. Ask your doctor whether this is useful for you.

Who is a good candidate for Potenza?

Usually a good fit

  • Rolling acne scars or uneven texture
  • Enlarged pores on the cheeks and nose
  • Mild active acne alongside scarring
  • People who prefer less downtime than ablative lasers

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices
  • Metal implants in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active infection, cold sores or open wounds
  • Recent isotretinoin or a history of keloids

What happens on Potenza treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor assesses your scars, pores and skin thickness, sets needle depths and agrees the price with you.
  2. Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for 30–40 minutes; it is always included.
  3. Treatment. The handpiece is pressed across the face in a pattern. You may feel pressure, heat and a prickling sensation, more over bony areas.
  4. Booster (optional). If chosen, a booster is applied through the fresh microchannels.
  5. Soothing and aftercare. A calming mask is applied and you receive written aftercare in English.

Potenza recovery: what to expect day by day

When What is typical
Day 0 Redness like a sunburn, warmth, mild swelling; tiny grid marks
Days 1–2 Redness fading; skin may feel tight or dry
Days 3–4 Most redness gone; possible light flaking
Weeks 2–4 Smoother surface as early collagen forms
Months 1–3 Progressive improvement in scars and pores

Aftercare tips

  • For the first 24 hours, avoid makeup and keep skin clean; use only the products advised.
  • Skip saunas, jjimjilbang, swimming pools and intense workouts for two to three days.
  • Moisturize generously and avoid retinoids and exfoliating acids for about a week.
  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.

See aftercare and our guide to the skincare routine after treatments.

Flying home? Most people can fly two to three days after Potenza, once the initial redness has settled. Cabin air is dry, so bring a rich moisturizer. Our aftercare guide explains what is normal.

Potenza results timeline

Skin may look slightly plumper within a week because of mild swelling and early repair, but true collagen remodeling takes time. Most people notice smoother texture after the first month, with scars and pores continuing to improve over two to three months. The best result usually comes after a series of about three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Results are long-lasting because they are based on your own collagen, but natural aging continues, so some people choose occasional maintenance. See Potenza results.

Potenza vs other RF microneedling and lasers

Several RF microneedling devices are used in Korea, and they differ in needle design, energy delivery and intended use. Potenza is a versatile platform used across the face for scars, pores and texture. Agnes RF, by contrast, uses ultra-fine insulated needles to treat very small, precise targets, such as the oil glands behind persistent acne or the fat pads behind under-eye bags. The two can complement each other, but they are not interchangeable.

Compared with CO2 fractional laser, Potenza usually offers shorter downtime and a lower risk of pigment changes in medium to darker skin, while CO2 can produce a stronger change in deep scars per session. Pico fractional is gentler than both and suits finer texture concerns. Your doctor may recommend one device or a combination over time, depending on the type and depth of your scars and how much downtime you can accept on your trip. See CO2 fractional vs Potenza for more detail.

Can Potenza be combined with other treatments?

Yes, with planning. Skin boosters are commonly delivered through the microchannels in the same session. Lifting treatments, Botox and some injectables can often be scheduled on other days of the same trip. Your doctor will advise on order and spacing so the skin is not overloaded.

Is Potenza safe? Risks and side effects

RF microneedling has a good safety record when performed by trained doctors. Expected effects are redness, swelling, tiny grid marks and occasional pinpoint bleeding. Less common risks include post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, temporary breakouts, infection and, rarely, small burns or scarring if energy or technique is not appropriate. Using sterile, single-use tips and settings adjusted for your skin reduces these risks. Contact the clinic if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness or pus.
