Rejuran S Skin Booster: How It Is Used for Acne Scars — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

Rejuran S is a thicker polynucleotide (PN) injectable from the Rejuran family that doctors place directly beneath depressed acne scars to support tissue repair and gradual remodeling. It is usually given as a series and works best alongside energy-based scar treatments rather than on its own. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong does not currently offer Rejuran S. For acne scars in Seoul, Dernia's doctors use Potenza RF microneedling, CO2 fractional laser, pico fractional and Rejuran Healer, chosen after an in-person scar assessment in English.

Treatment type Polynucleotide (PN) injectable for scars
Used for Depressed (atrophic) acne scars
Downtime Small bumps or bruising for a few days
Sessions Usually a series, weeks apart
At Dernia Not offered; scar alternatives available
Scar options from ₩149,000 (pico fractional, full face)

Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation.

What is Rejuran S?

Rejuran S is part of the Rejuran family of polynucleotide (PN) injectables made in Korea. Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments, traditionally derived from salmon, that are thought to support the skin's own repair processes. Where the better-known Rejuran Healer is spread across the whole face as a skin booster, Rejuran S is a thicker formulation intended to be placed in small amounts directly beneath individual depressed scars.

The idea is simple: an atrophic acne scar is a small area where collagen was lost during inflammation, leaving a dip in the surface. Placing a supportive, repair-oriented material right under that dip aims to encourage healthier tissue to form over time. It is not a filler in the usual sense, and it does not instantly raise a scar the way hyaluronic acid can.

Dernia Clinic Myeongdong does not currently offer Rejuran S. We do offer Rejuran Healer and several proven scar treatments, which we cover below. If you want to understand polynucleotides more broadly, see is Rejuran made from salmon?

How is Rejuran S used for acne scars?

In clinics that use it, Rejuran S is usually one part of a scar plan rather than the whole plan. A typical approach looks like this:

  • Scar mapping. The doctor identifies which scars are rolling, boxcar or icepick, because each type responds differently.
  • Release, if needed. Scars tethered down by fibrous bands may first need subcision, a needle technique that frees the scar base.
  • Placement. A small amount of product is injected under each depressed scar.
  • Resurfacing. An energy-based treatment such as RF microneedling or fractional laser is often added in the same plan to remodel the surface.

Because collagen remodeling is slow, changes are gradual. Most doctors plan several sessions spaced a few weeks apart and judge progress over months, not days.

Which acne scars respond best?

Scar type What it looks like Approaches doctors commonly consider
Rolling Soft, wave-like dips with sloping edges Subcision, RF microneedling, injectable support
Boxcar Wider, flat-bottomed dips with sharp edges Fractional laser, RF microneedling
Icepick Narrow, deep pits Targeted resurfacing; often the hardest to improve
Red or brown marks Flat discoloration, not true scars Vascular laser, toning, sun protection

Injectable repair products are usually discussed for softer, rolling scars. Deep icepick scars and sharp boxcar edges generally need resurfacing. Flat red or brown marks are not scars at all and respond to different treatments — see post-acne marks.

Who is a good candidate for scar treatment?

Usually a good fit

  • Mature, settled acne scars with few active breakouts
  • Realistic goals: softer, shallower scars rather than perfect skin
  • Time for a series of sessions over several months
  • Willingness to protect skin from the sun during healing

Talk to the doctor first

  • Active, inflamed acne (treat this first)
  • A history of keloid or raised scarring
  • Fish allergy, for salmon-derived PN products
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or recent isotretinoin use

If you still have breakouts, it usually makes sense to calm them before working on scars. Our acne treatments page explains the options.

What can you book at Dernia for acne scars instead?

Because Dernia does not offer Rejuran S, your doctor will build a plan from the treatments we do provide. Each works by a different mechanism:

  • Potenza RF microneedling delivers radiofrequency heat at a set depth through fine needles, stimulating collagen under scars with 2–4 days of redness. See Potenza.
  • CO2 fractional laser is the strongest resurfacing option for deeper scars, with 5–7 days of redness and crusting. See CO2 fractional laser.
  • Pico fractional is a gentler option for shallow scars and texture, with 1–3 days of redness.
  • Rejuran Healer is a full-face PN booster that supports skin quality and recovery; it is not a dedicated scar product, but some plans include it. See Rejuran Healer.

For a step-by-step overview of how these fit together, read our acne scar treatment plan.

Acne scar results timeline: what to expect

Whichever method is used, scar improvement follows the pace of collagen remodeling. That means the first weeks are about healing, and the visible change comes later.

  • First few days: redness, small bumps or crusting depending on the treatment; scars may look temporarily raised from swelling.
  • Weeks 2–4: swelling has settled, so scars can look much as they did before. This is normal and not a sign that treatment failed.
  • Months 2–3: new collagen begins to soften edges and lift shallower scars.
  • After a full series: most people see scars that are shallower and less noticeable in normal light, rather than gone.

Take photos in the same light before each session so you can judge progress honestly. Scars that were present for years rarely disappear completely, and a good doctor will tell you that at the start.

Is it safe? Risks and side effects

Polynucleotide injectables have been used widely in Korea, and most side effects are short-lived. With any scar injection, expect the following possibilities:

  • Small bumps at injection points that settle over a few days
  • Redness, tenderness and occasional bruising
  • Uneven early appearance while swelling settles
  • Rarely, infection or a lumpy reaction that needs follow-up

People with a known fish allergy should tell the doctor before any salmon-derived product. Energy-based treatments carry their own risks, such as temporary darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), which is more likely in darker skin types and after sun exposure. A licensed doctor should always confirm suitability. Read side effects and when to contact us.

Planning acne scar treatment around your Seoul trip

Scar treatment is a longer project than most visitor treatments. A single trip can start the process, but meaningful change usually needs repeat sessions.

  • Book ahead. Send clear photos and your travel dates through our consultation form so the doctor can suggest a realistic plan.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Schedule treatment for day two or later, after you have rested.
  • Allow recovery time. Plan resurfacing early in your stay so redness or crusting can settle before you fly.
  • Getting here. Dernia is in Myeongdong, a short walk from Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).

Flying home? After stronger resurfacing such as CO2, try to leave several days before your flight, and protect healing skin from cabin dryness and sun. Our aftercare guide explains what to do in English.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dernia offer Rejuran S?

No. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong does not currently offer Rejuran S. For acne scars, our doctors use Potenza RF microneedling, CO2 fractional laser, pico fractional and Rejuran Healer, chosen after an in-person assessment.

What is the difference between Rejuran S and Rejuran Healer?

Both are polynucleotide injectables. Rejuran Healer is spread across the face as a skin booster, while Rejuran S is a thicker formulation placed directly under individual depressed scars.

Can a skin booster alone fix acne scars?

Usually not. Injectable boosters may support repair, but most depressed scars also need resurfacing or RF microneedling, and often several sessions, for visible improvement.

How many sessions do acne scars need?

Most plans involve several sessions spaced weeks apart. Deeper or mixed scars typically need more sessions than shallow, rolling scars.

Can I treat acne scars on a short trip to Seoul?

You can start a plan, but scar improvement builds over months. A doctor can suggest one strong session for your trip and explain how to continue at home.

Is Rejuran safe if I have a fish allergy?

Tell your doctor about any fish allergy before a salmon-derived polynucleotide treatment. The doctor will decide whether it is suitable or recommend an alternative.
