Quick answer

Thermage FLX and InMode Forma both use radiofrequency to firm the skin, but Thermage delivers a strong single session that usually lasts 12–18 months, while InMode Forma gives gentler heating that works best as a series of about 3–5 sessions. InMode's Mini FX applicator also targets small fat pockets under the chin and along the jowls. For a short trip to Seoul, Thermage often fits better; InMode suits longer stays or regular visits. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Thermage FLX starts from ₩990,000 and InMode from ₩129,000 per session, excluding 10% VAT.

Technology Both radiofrequency (RF)
Thermage FLX One strong session
InMode Forma Gentle series of 3–5 sessions
Downtime None to minimal for both
Results last Thermage ~12–18 mo; InMode needs maintenance
Price in Seoul From ₩990,000 vs from ₩129,000/session

Thermage FLX vs InMode: the key difference

Both treatments firm the face with radiofrequency (RF) heat, so they share a goal: tighter-looking skin and new collagen. The difference is in intensity and planning. Thermage FLX delivers a strong, deep dose of RF in one session. InMode Forma delivers gentler, comfortable heating that builds results over a series of visits, while the Mini FX applicator adds targeted treatment for small areas of fullness under the chin and along the jowls.

So the question is less which is stronger and more which fits your face, your schedule and how often you can come back to Seoul. For an overview of all options, see Korean lifting treatments explained.

How does Thermage FLX work?

Thermage FLX, from Solta Medical, uses monopolar RF delivered through a single-use tip. Each pulse heats the deep dermis while the surface is cooled. Existing collagen contracts on the day, and new collagen forms over two to six months. One session is usually enough, and many people repeat it every 12–18 months. Learn more on the Thermage FLX page.

How does InMode Forma and Mini FX work?

InMode is a platform with several applicators. Forma glides continuously over the skin and raises its temperature gradually to a set target, which most people find warm and comfortable, like a hot stone massage. Because each session is gentle, results build over a series. Mini FX is designed for small, stubborn pockets of fat, such as a mild double chin or fullness along the jawline, and is also used as a series. See the InMode Forma and Mini FX page.

Downtime None to minimal None

Which is better for facial firmness?

For a single, noticeable firming treatment, Thermage FLX is generally the stronger option. It suits mild to moderate laxity, crepey skin and a softening jawline, and its results build for months after you have gone home.

InMode suits people who want gentle, regular care rather than one intense session, such as those who live in Seoul, visit often, or prefer a comfortable treatment with an immediate glow. Its strength is maintenance and, with Mini FX, contouring small areas of fullness that RF tightening alone does not address.

Some people use both: Thermage once a year for deeper tightening, with InMode sessions in between. Your doctor will explain which approach makes sense after examining your skin, and will tell you honestly if neither device is likely to meet your expectations. Expected timelines are on the Thermage FLX results and InMode results pages.

Who is a good candidate?

Usually a good fit

  • Thermage: mild to moderate laxity, crepey skin, eyelid hooding, short trips
  • InMode Forma: dull, slightly loose skin, people wanting comfortable regular care
  • Mini FX: mild under-chin fullness or soft jowl pads
  • Anyone wanting little or no downtime

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Significant sagging or excess skin
  • Metal implants in the treatment area, active infection or open wounds

If your main concern is a double chin, compare other approaches on our double chin page.

What happens on treatment day

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor examines your skin, discusses your goals and confirms the treatment and price with you before starting.
  2. Preparation. Thermage uses numbing cream for about 30–40 minutes; InMode Forma usually does not need it.
  3. Treatment. Thermage is delivered pulse by pulse over a grid. Forma is glided continuously until the skin reaches its target temperature; Mini FX is applied to small, marked areas.
  4. Soothing and aftercare. Redness is calmed, and you receive written aftercare in English before you leave.

Is it safe? Risks and side effects

Both are well-established RF treatments when performed under medical supervision. Common effects are short-lived: redness and warmth for a few hours, and sometimes mild swelling or tenderness. With Thermage, small blisters or temporary tingling are uncommon but possible. With Mini FX, temporary swelling, tenderness or numbness under the chin can occur. Rarely, excessive heating can cause burns or contour irregularities, so settings should be chosen by a doctor and adjusted to your feedback. Tell the doctor about any implants, fillers or threads you already have.

Before you book at any clinic in Korea, it helps to check a few basics:

  • Who examines you. A licensed doctor should assess your skin and set the plan, not only a coordinator.
  • Genuine equipment. For Thermage, ask to see the sealed single-use tip opened and the shot counter at the end.
  • What a session includes. For InMode, confirm which applicators and areas are covered, and how many sessions are recommended in total.
  • Aftercare in English. You should leave knowing what is normal and who to contact if something feels wrong.

Our guide on how to choose a skin clinic in Seoul covers these points in more depth. If anything unusual appears after treatment, such as blistering, worsening pain or numbness that does not fade, contact the clinic promptly so a doctor can review it.

Planning Thermage or InMode around your Seoul trip

  • Short stay: Thermage fits a single visit. InMode can be started, but a full series needs more time or return trips.
  • Book ahead: send your dates via our consultation form so the plan fits your itinerary.
  • Avoid arrival day: schedule treatment for day two or later.
  • Getting here: Dernia is near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2). See location and directions.

Flying home? Neither treatment leaves wounds, so most people can fly the next day. Skip saunas and intense workouts for a day or two, and use sunscreen daily. Our aftercare guide has more detail.
