Oligio X is a Korean RF device from Wontech that works on a similar principle at a lower price, with results usually lasting about 6–12 months. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Thermage FLX starts from ₩990,000 and Oligio X from ₩390,000 for 300 shots, excluding 10% VAT.

Thermage FLX vs Oligio X: what is the difference?

Both devices belong to the same family: monopolar radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening. RF energy passes through the skin and is converted to heat in the deeper dermis. That heat makes collagen fibers contract right away and encourages the skin to produce new collagen over the following months. The surface is cooled to protect it.

The main differences are in the brand, the history, the design of the tip and cooling, how the energy is controlled, and price. Thermage has been used worldwide for many years and is the reference point that most RF devices are measured against. Oligio X is a Korean-made device designed to deliver a similar type of tightening with a focus on comfort and accessibility. For background, see our Korean lifting treatments explained guide.

How does Thermage FLX work?

Thermage FLX is the fourth-generation Thermage system from Solta Medical. Energy is delivered through a single-use tip that measures the skin before each pulse and adjusts output, which helps keep heating even. Cooling spray and vibration help with comfort. A dedicated eye tip allows careful treatment of the eyelids. Read the full device explanation on the Thermage FLX page.

How does Oligio X work?

Oligio X is a monopolar RF device made by Wontech in Korea. Like Thermage, it heats the deep dermis while cooling the surface, and it is priced by shots. Korean RF devices such as Oligio are often chosen by people who want regular RF tightening at a lower cost per session, or who prefer a device that many patients describe as more comfortable. See the Oligio X treatment page for details.

Which gives better results?

Because they work on the same principle, the type of result is similar: firmer, smoother-looking skin and a gradual improvement in mild laxity, crepiness and texture. Neither is a facelift, and neither adds volume.

What usually differs is how long the effect lasts and how people feel during the treatment. Thermage is commonly chosen as a once-a-year treatment for longer-lasting tightening. Oligio X is often used more frequently, for example every six months or so, as part of regular maintenance. Some people alternate between them. Your doctor will base the recommendation on your skin thickness, laxity and budget. As a rough guide, people with thinner, more crepey skin, or who want the eyelids treated, often lean toward Thermage, while people in their early 30s focused on prevention and regular upkeep often find Oligio X a practical fit. Both work gradually: expect a slight fresh, firm look on the day, early change around a month, and the main result after two to three months as collagen matures. Typical timelines are on the Thermage FLX results and Oligio X results pages.

Does Oligio X hurt less than Thermage?

Comfort is personal, but many people describe Oligio X as gentler. Thermage delivers stronger bursts of heat that some find intense on bony areas, although numbing cream, cooling and vibration make it manageable for most. With either device, the doctor can reduce energy in sensitive spots and you can say if anything feels too hot.

The treatment day itself is similar for both devices:

  1. English consultation. A licensed doctor assesses your skin thickness, laxity and goals, then agrees the device, shot count and final price with you before anything starts.
  2. Cleansing and numbing. Topical numbing cream is applied for roughly 30–40 minutes, depending on the device and your sensitivity.
  3. Grid marking. A temporary grid may be drawn so the energy is spread evenly over every area.
  4. Treatment. The tip is passed over each zone. You feel warmth or short heat pulses, with cooling between them. Settings are adjusted as you go.
  5. Soothing. A calming mask or soothing care settles redness before you leave, and you receive written aftercare in English.

Who is a good candidate for RF lifting?

Usually a good fit

  • Adults with mild to moderate skin laxity or crepey texture
  • Early softening of the jawline or cheeks
  • People who want no downtime during a trip
  • Oligio X: those wanting more frequent, lower-cost RF

Talk to the doctor first

  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Heavy sagging or excess skin
  • Active infection, open wounds or recent procedures in the area

If your main concern is volume loss or deep folds, RF alone may not be enough. Your doctor may discuss options for sagging skin that combine approaches.

Is it safe? Risks and side effects

Monopolar RF has been used for many years and is considered low risk in trained hands. Expect mild redness and warmth for a few hours, sometimes slight swelling or tenderness over the jaw and cheekbones for a few days. Less common effects include small blisters, temporary bumps or tingling. Rarely, uneven heating can cause contour changes, which is why the device should be operated under a doctor's supervision with genuine tips. Ask to see the sealed tip and the final shot count at any clinic.

Contact the clinic promptly if you notice blistering, a firm or painful area that gets worse rather than better, or numbness that does not settle within a few days. These are uncommon, but a doctor should review them early, and written instructions in English make that easy even after you have flown home.

Planning RF lifting around your Seoul trip

  • Book ahead. Send your dates and concerns through the consultation form so a plan can be suggested before you arrive.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Most visitors treat on day two or later.
  • Getting here. Dernia is a short walk from Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).
  • Flying home. With no injections or wounds, most people can fly the next day.

After treatment: skip saunas, jjimjilbang and hard workouts for a day or two and wear sunscreen daily. You can usually wear makeup the same day. See our aftercare guide for more.
