Ulthera Prime vs Shurink Universe: the short version

How does Ulthera Prime work?
Ulthera Prime uses transducers that deliver focused ultrasound at set depths, typically around 4.5 mm for the SMAS, 3.0 mm for the deep dermis and 1.5 mm for the more superficial dermis. Its defining feature is real-time ultrasound imaging: the doctor sees the skin, fat, muscle and bone on screen before placing each line, which helps place energy precisely and avoid bone or thin areas. How does Shurink Universe work?
Shurink Universe also uses cartridges set to fixed depths, but it does not include real-time imaging; the doctor relies on anatomy and experience to choose depths and placement. Which is more painful?
HIFU comfort varies a lot between people and areas. Ulthera Prime is known for being more intense, particularly over the jawline, cheekbones and forehead, where you may feel a deep, prickling heat or ache. Numbing cream is used, and the doctor can adjust energy or spacing. Shurink Universe is generally described as milder, with a warm, prickling sensation that most people tolerate well, though bony areas can still be sensitive.
The appointment itself follows a similar pattern for both devices:
- English consultation. A licensed doctor examines where your laxity sits, checks for thin areas or existing filler and threads, and agrees the device, number of lines or shots and the final price with you.
- Cleansing and numbing. Numbing cream is applied, usually for around 30–40 minutes for Ulthera Prime and often less for Shurink.
- Mapping. The treatment zones are marked, and with Ulthera Prime the doctor checks the tissue layers on the imaging screen.

Is HIFU safe? Risks and side effects
HIFU has been used for facial lifting for many years and is considered low risk when performed by trained medical staff. Common, temporary effects include redness, mild swelling, and tenderness or a bruised feeling along the jaw for a few days. Less commonly, people experience small bruises, temporary numbness or tingling, or welts in a line pattern. - Book ahead. Send your dates and concerns through the consultation form so a plan can be suggested before you arrive.
- Avoid your arrival day. Schedule treatment for day two or later, when you are rested.
