Non-Surgical Facelift in Seoul: Best Treatment Options Explained — Myeongdong, Seoul
Non-Surgical Facelift in Seoul: Best Treatment Options Explained — a guide for visitors in Myeongdong, Seoul.
Quick answer

A non-surgical facelift in Seoul combines treatments that lift, tighten and restore volume without incisions. The main tools are focused ultrasound (Ulthera Prime, Shurink Universe) for deeper lift, radiofrequency (Thermage FLX, Oligio X) for skin tightening, PDO thread lifts for a more immediate lift, and collagen stimulators or fillers for lost volume. Results are subtler than surgery but come with far less downtime. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, a full-face Ulthera Prime plan is ₩1,390,000 and a full lower-face thread lift ₩1,690,000 (KRW, excluding 10% VAT).

Approach Combination of lifting, tightening and volume
Main tools HIFU, RF, threads, collagen stimulators
Downtime None to about 7 days, by treatment
Sessions Often one visit, plus maintenance
Results Gradual; peak at 2–6 months
Price in Seoul From ₩149,000 (Shurink, 300 shots)

Prices are in Korean won, exclude 10% VAT and are confirmed by a doctor at consultation.

What is a non-surgical facelift?

A "non-surgical facelift" is not one procedure. It is a plan that uses several minimally invasive treatments to address the main causes of facial aging: loose deeper tissue, thinning and crepey skin, volume loss and muscle-driven lines. In Seoul, doctors typically combine two or three treatments in one visit, then suggest maintenance over the following year.

The goal is a fresher, more lifted face that still looks like you. It will not match the degree of change from a surgical facelift, and it does not remove excess skin — but it involves no general anesthesia, no incisions and much shorter recovery. For an overview of the Korean philosophy behind this, see the Korean approach to aesthetics.

What causes the face to sag?

  • SMAS and ligament laxity: the supporting layers loosen, so tissue moves downward, forming jowls and deeper folds.
  • Collagen loss: the dermis thins and loses elasticity, making skin crepey.
  • Volume loss: fat pads shrink and shift, and bone gradually changes, leaving hollows at the temples, cheeks and under-eyes.
  • Muscle activity: repeated expressions create lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes.

A good non-surgical facelift plan matches each treatment to the cause, rather than using one device for everything.

The best non-surgical facelift options in Seoul

Treatment What it does Downtime Dernia price from (KRW)
Ulthera Prime Focused ultrasound lift of SMAS and dermis None to mild swelling ₩390,000 (100 lines)
Shurink Universe Korean HIFU for jawline and under-chin None ₩149,000 (300 shots)
Thermage FLX Monopolar RF skin tightening None to minimal ₩990,000 (300 shots)
PDO thread lift Repositions tissue with dissolvable threads 3–7 days swelling or bruising ₩690,000 (one area)
Sculptra PLLA collagen stimulator to restore volume Swelling 1–3 days ₩590,000 (1 vial)
Dermal filler HA volume and contour support Mild swelling 1–3 days ₩150,000 (1cc Korean HA)

Focused ultrasound (HIFU)

HIFU reaches the SMAS, the layer a surgeon tightens in a facelift. It is the core of most non-surgical lifting plans in Korea. See the Ulthera Prime page.

Radiofrequency (RF)

RF tightens the skin itself and improves crepiness, including on the eyelids. It pairs well with HIFU.

Thread lift

PDO threads give a more immediate mechanical lift of the cheeks and jowls, and stimulate collagen as they dissolve. Of the non-surgical options, it is the closest to a lift you can see on the day, but it involves needles and a few days of swelling. Read about the thread lift and compare it in thread lift vs Ulthera Prime.

Collagen stimulators and filler

Lifting alone cannot replace lost volume. Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra rebuild volume gradually, while hyaluronic acid filler restores structure immediately. Used carefully at key support points, they can make the face look lifted. Compare them in dermal filler vs Sculptra.

Who is a good candidate?

The best candidates have mild to moderate changes and want a natural improvement rather than a dramatic transformation. Skin quality matters too: people with reasonably good skin elasticity usually respond better to energy-based lifting than those with very thin, sun-damaged skin. Age alone does not decide suitability. Someone in their 50s with good skin may respond well, while someone younger with heavy laxity may see less change. A doctor will examine your face at rest and in motion, check where volume has been lost and explain which parts of your concern each treatment can and cannot address.

Usually a good fit

  • Mild to moderate sagging, early jowls or a softening jawline
  • Crepey skin or mild volume loss
  • People who want natural change without surgery
  • Those maintaining a previous surgical result

Talk to the doctor first

  • Heavy sagging or a lot of excess skin, where surgery may be more effective
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Bleeding disorders or blood-thinning medication (for threads and injectables)
  • Active infection, or pacemakers and metal implants (for RF)
  • Unrealistic expectations of a surgical-level result

Example non-surgical facelift plans

Every plan is personalized by the doctor, but common combinations include:

  • Early laxity (30s): Shurink Universe or Ulthera Prime, plus a skin booster for texture.
  • Moderate laxity (40s): Ulthera Prime with Thermage FLX, plus targeted filler or a collagen stimulator for volume.
  • Jowls needing visible lift: a PDO thread lift combined with energy-based tightening.
  • Volume-led aging: Sculptra or Lenisna over two sessions, with a lifting device for support.

See the Seoul Signature Lifting package for one example of a combined plan.

What to expect: results and recovery

  1. Treatment day. After an English consultation and numbing, treatments are performed in an order chosen by the doctor, often energy devices first, then injectables.
  2. First week. Energy devices usually cause only mild redness or tenderness. Threads and injectables may cause swelling or bruising for several days.
  3. Months 1–3. Collagen remodeling builds firmness, and filler or threads settle into a natural position.
  4. Months 3–6. Peak result for most combinations, with maintenance planned from about six to twelve months.

Is a non-surgical facelift safe?

Each treatment has its own risk profile. Energy-based devices can cause temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and, rarely, burns, nerve irritation or unwanted fat loss. Thread lifts can cause bruising, asymmetry, dimpling, visible or palpable threads and, rarely, infection or thread extrusion. Fillers carry a small but serious risk of vascular occlusion, where filler blocks a blood vessel and can damage skin or, very rarely, affect vision; this requires immediate medical treatment. Collagen stimulators can occasionally form nodules.

These risks are why a licensed doctor should design and perform your plan, explain each risk in plain English and give written aftercare. Read side effects and when to contact us.

Flying home? Energy-based treatments rarely affect travel, but threads and fillers need more time to settle. Allow several days before a long flight if you have threads, and read our guide to flying after injectables.

Planning a non-surgical facelift around your Seoul trip

  • Book ahead. Send photos, concerns and travel dates through our consultation form so the doctor can outline a plan before you arrive.
  • Avoid your arrival day. Rest after your flight and schedule treatment from day two.
  • Allow recovery time. If threads or fillers are included, a stay of about five to seven days is more comfortable; see our 7-day treatment schedule.
  • Getting here. Dernia is in Myeongdong, near Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2).

Frequently asked questions

Can a non-surgical facelift replace surgery?

Not fully. It can give a natural lift and firmer skin for mild to moderate laxity, but it does not remove excess skin. For heavy sagging, a surgical opinion may be more appropriate.

Which non-surgical facelift lasts the longest?

Durations vary by treatment. Thermage FLX commonly lasts 12–18 months, Ulthera around a year, thread lifts about 12–18 months and Sculptra up to about two years after a series.

How long should I stay in Seoul for a non-surgical facelift?

For energy-based treatments alone, two or three days is often enough. If threads or fillers are included, about five to seven days is more comfortable.

Does Dernia offer surgical facelifts?

No. Dernia is a dermatology and aesthetic clinic and does not offer surgical facelifts. The doctor can tell you honestly if surgery may suit you better.

Is a thread lift safe?

PDO thread lifts are widely performed, but risks include bruising, asymmetry, dimpling and, rarely, infection or thread extrusion. A doctor explains these before treatment.

Can I combine several treatments in one day?

Often, yes. The doctor plans the order and spacing so treatments work together safely.
