FAQ

Can I get Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Quick answer: No. Botox and other botulinum toxins are not recommended while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. There is not enough research to show they are safe for a developing baby or a nursing infant, so doctors advise waiting. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors also postpone most fillers, skin boosters and many lasers during this time, and can plan treatment for after you finish breastfeeding.

The detailed answer

Botulinum toxin, whether Allergan Botox or a Korean brand, is used in tiny doses for cosmetic treatment. Even so, pregnant and breastfeeding women are not included in the clinical trials, so there is no reliable evidence that it is safe for a developing baby or a nursing infant. Product information and medical guidance advise against cosmetic use in these situations. With an elective treatment, the sensible choice is to wait. The same advice applies to every toxin brand and every area, including jaw Botox and skin Botox.

Other treatments to postpone

The same caution applies to most aesthetic treatments that are not medically necessary:

Pregnancy hormones can also trigger pigmentation such as melasma, which sometimes fades after birth, so it often makes sense to reassess your skin afterward.

If you had Botox before you knew you were pregnant

Try not to worry, but tell your obstetrician or midwife what you had, when, and in which area. Cosmetic doses are small, and they can advise you. Avoid further treatment until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What you can do in the meantime

Daily sunscreen, gentle hydrating skincare and a consistent routine are the foundation. Check any new product or facial with your own doctor or midwife first, especially if it contains strong active ingredients. If melasma or acne is bothering you, your own doctor can suggest pregnancy-safe options, and you can plan clinic treatments for a later trip once breastfeeding has finished.

What we recommend

Tell your doctor at consultation if you are pregnant, could be pregnant, are trying to conceive or are breastfeeding. Once you have finished breastfeeding, your doctor can plan wrinkle Botox, jaw Botox or other treatments with you. If you are planning a future trip, read is Korean Botox safe? and our medical disclaimer, and book a consultation for when the time is right.

Not sure which treatment is right for you?

Tell us your concerns and your travel dates. A doctor examines your skin in person, explains your options in English, and confirms the plan and price before anything is done.
