What is wrinkle Botox?
Botox is the best-known brand of botulinum toxin type A, and in Korea the word is used for any brand. Tiny, precise doses relax the specific muscles that crease the skin when you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile. With less muscle pull, existing expression lines soften and new ones are less likely to deepen. It is one of the quickest treatments in our treatment menu.
Korean clinics offer a choice of toxins. Korean brands such as Botulax, Nabota, Coretox and Innotox are widely used and cost less. Nabota is also sold in the United States, where it is approved under the name Jeuveau. Imported options include Botox from Allergan (USA), Xeomin from Germany, which contains no complexing proteins, and Dysport (UK/France). Our guides to Korean vs imported toxin brands and whether Korean Botox is safe explain the differences.
How Botox works
Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the signal between nerve and muscle at the injection site. The treated muscle relaxes while nearby muscles keep working, so you can still make natural expressions. Nerve signaling gradually recovers over three to four months, which is why treatment is repeated.
Doses are measured in units, and units are not interchangeable between brands; Dysport in particular uses a different scale. Your doctor plans the dose for the brand you choose. Korean practice generally favors lighter, well-placed doses that keep expressions natural, with a small top-up if needed rather than a heavy first treatment.
Who is a good candidate?
- Horizontal forehead lines when you raise your brows
- Frown lines, the 11 lines between the eyebrows
- Crow's feet at the outer eyes when you smile
- People in their 20s and 30s who want to prevent lines from setting in
Botox softens lines caused by movement. Deep lines etched at rest may also need a skin booster or filler; see Botox vs dermal filler. For a slimmer jaw, jaw Botox treats the chewing muscle, and skin Botox uses superficial micro-doses for pores and texture.
Treatment areas
| Area | What it softens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Forehead | Horizontal lines | Dosed conservatively to keep natural brow movement |
| Frown (glabella) | Vertical 11 lines | The most common area |
| Crow's feet | Lines at the outer eyes | Softens smile lines without freezing the smile |
| Three-area plan | Forehead, frown and crow's feet | A popular combined upper-face treatment |
Imported toxins cost more per area than Korean brands. See the Botox price page for both. Prices are in Korean won (KRW), exclude 10% VAT, and are confirmed at your consultation.
Your session at Dernia, step by step
- Consultation in English with a licensed medical doctor, who watches your expressions and agrees areas, brand and dose.
- Cleansing and, if you wish, an ice pack or numbing cream.
- Injection with a very fine needle at planned points, taking a few minutes per area.
- Aftercare advice and a suggested review date.
You can ask to see the toxin vial and brand before treatment.
Downtime and aftercare
There is no real downtime. Small bumps at the injection points fade within an hour, and tiny bruises are possible. For four hours, stay upright, do not rub or massage the area, and avoid lying face down. Skip intense exercise, saunas and alcohol for the rest of the day. Makeup is fine after a few hours.
Results: what to expect and when
Lines begin to soften within two to three days, with the full effect at about two weeks. Results last about three to four months, sometimes longer with regular treatment. Botox will not lift sagging skin, restore volume or erase lines that are deeply etched at rest, though those often look softer over repeated sessions. See the Botox results timeline.
Planning Botox around a trip to Seoul
Botox is quick and leaves no marks, so it fits any itinerary. Book it early in your stay so a small touch-up is possible at around two weeks if you are still in Seoul. Flying afterward is generally fine; read can I fly after Botox. It is often combined with skin boosters or lifting in the same visit. Book a consultation and your doctor will confirm the plan.
Safety: who should avoid or delay it
Botox is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; see Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also unsuitable with infection at the injection site, a neuromuscular disorder such as myasthenia gravis, or a known allergy to botulinum toxin products. Tell your doctor about all medications, including certain antibiotics and blood thinners. Uncommon side effects include headache and temporary brow or eyelid heaviness, which settle as the toxin wears off. At Dernia, Botox is injected by licensed medical doctors.
