Frequently Asked Questions
Short, direct answers to the questions international patients ask most — about specific treatments, pain and downtime, flying, booking, currency and tax. Each answer links to a full page with more detail.
In short: Common questions include whether Thermage hurts (it feels warm, with numbing and cooling), how long Ulthera lasts (about a year or more), whether you can fly after Botox (yes, usually the same or next day) and whether VAT is refunded (not since January 1, 2026).
Treatments
Questions about treatments
Pain, downtime, results and safety — answered by our medical team.
Does Thermage FLX hurt?
Somewhat, but most people find it tolerable. Thermage FLX feels like brief pulses of deep heat. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, numbing cream, the tip's built-in cooling and vibration, and energy adjusted to your feedback keep it manageable. Bony areas like the jawline feel hottest. The heat fades as each pulse ends, and afterward most people feel only mild tenderness, if anything.
How long does Ulthera last?
Usually about 12 months or longer. Ulthera Prime results build gradually as new collagen forms, peaking around 2–3 months after a single session. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, many people plan a repeat every 12–18 months to maintain the lift. How long yours lasts depends on your age, starting laxity, the number of lines used, sun exposure and lifestyle.
Can I fly after Botox?
Yes, you can usually fly the same day or the day after Botox, and cabin pressure does not affect the toxin. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we suggest staying upright and not rubbing the area for about 4 hours. Have treatment early in your trip: Botox starts working in 2–5 days and peaks at about 2 weeks, so a check before you leave is ideal.
Can I drink alcohol after filler?
Not right away. Wait at least 24 hours, and ideally 48, before drinking alcohol after dermal filler. Alcohol widens blood vessels and slightly thins the blood, which can increase swelling and bruising. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we also suggest skipping alcohol the night before treatment. After that, moderate drinking is fine, and there is no good evidence it makes hyaluronic acid filler wear off faster.
When can I wear makeup after laser treatment?
It depends on the laser. After gentle, non-ablative treatments like pico toning or laser toning, you can usually wear makeup the same evening or next morning. After IPL, wait until the next day; after pico fractional, 1–3 days. After CO2 fractional laser, wait until crusting has healed, usually 5–7 days. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, your doctor confirms timing for your skin.
When will I see Rejuran results?
Usually within 1–2 weeks for an early glow, with clearer improvements after 2–3 sessions. Rejuran Healer supports skin repair rather than adding volume, so results build gradually. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we typically suggest a series of three sessions about 2–4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6 months, to improve texture, elasticity and fine lines.
How often should I do pico toning?
Usually every 1–2 weeks for a course of 5–10 sessions, then maintenance every 1–3 months. Pico toning uses low, gentle energy, so results come from repetition rather than one strong session. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors may space sessions further apart for melasma-prone or sensitive skin, because over-treating pigment can backfire. Each full-face session starts from ₩69,000.
Is Shurink the same as Ulthera?
No. They are related but not the same. Both use focused ultrasound (often called HIFU) to lift, but Ulthera Prime by Merz has built-in real-time imaging and results that typically last about a year, while Shurink Universe by Classys of Korea is a lighter, lower-cost option often repeated every 3–6 months. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Ulthera starts from ₩390,000 and Shurink from ₩149,000.
Can I get Botox and filler on the same day?
Yes. Botox and filler are commonly done in the same appointment, and for most people this is safe and efficient. They work differently: toxin relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines, while filler restores volume or shape. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, your doctor plans the order and doses so they complement each other. Expect mild swelling for 1–3 days and full toxin results at about 2 weeks.
How many units of jaw Botox do I need?
Most people need about 20–30 units per side, or roughly 40–60 units in total, of a toxin dosed on the standard scale such as Botox or common Korean brands; larger or stronger masseter muscles may need more. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, jaw Botox starts from ₩59,000 for both sides with a Korean toxin. Your doctor sets the dose after feeling the muscle as you clench.
Does Juvelook cause lumps?
Temporary bumps, yes; lasting lumps, uncommonly. Small raised bumps at the injection points are normal after Juvelook and usually flatten within 1–3 days. Persistent nodules can occur with any collagen-stimulating injectable, including Juvelook's PDLLA, but correct mixing, depth and even placement lower the risk. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, licensed doctors inject Juvelook, and any lump lasting over two weeks should be checked.
Can I exercise after Thermage?
Yes. Light exercise such as walking is fine the same day after Thermage FLX, and most people return to normal workouts within about 24 hours. Thermage leaves no wound, but heat and heavy sweating can prolong redness or tenderness. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we suggest skipping saunas, hot yoga and very intense sessions for about 24 hours. If you also had Botox or filler, follow their stricter rules.
Is there downtime after skin boosters?
Very little for most people: expect small raised bumps at the injection points for 1–3 days, plus occasional pinpoint bruising. After Rejuran Healer, most people go straight back to sightseeing, and light makeup is usually fine the next day. Downtime varies by product, from about 24 hours for Profhilo to up to 3 days for Juvelook. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong doctors explain what to expect for your plan.
How long does lip filler swelling last?
Most lip filler swelling peaks in the first 24–48 hours and settles within 2–4 days, though subtle swelling can take up to about 2 weeks to fully resolve. Mornings are often puffiest. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we judge the final shape at around two weeks, so avoid deciding on more volume before then. Cool compresses, sleeping with your head raised and avoiding alcohol all help.
Can I get laser treatment with a tan?
Usually not with a fresh or active tan. Tanned skin holds more melanin, which absorbs laser and IPL light and raises the risk of burns, blisters and dark or light patches. Most doctors advise waiting about 2–4 weeks for a tan to fade first. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, your doctor checks your skin and may suggest a gentler laser, lower settings or a different treatment.
Can I have laser treatment right before a flight?
Yes for gentle lasers. After pico toning or laser toning, flying the next day is usually fine, since there is no open wound. For lasers that break the skin, such as CO2 fractional, allow about 5–7 days of healing first. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors schedule stronger lasers early in your trip and advise protecting skin from dry cabin air and window UV.
How much is Thermage in Korea?
At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Thermage FLX starts from ₩990,000 for 300 shots on the face, excluding 10% VAT (₩1,089,000 with VAT). Larger plans of 600 or 900 shots, which add the jawline and neck, cost more. Prices across Korea vary with shot count, genuine tips, the area treated and whether VAT is included, so compare the full details rather than the headline price.
How much is Botox in Korea?
At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, wrinkle Botox starts from ₩39,000 per area with a Korean toxin, and jaw (masseter) Botox from ₩59,000 for both sides, excluding 10% VAT. Imported brands such as Botox by Allergan, Xeomin or Dysport cost more, and larger treatments such as skin Botox or shoulder Botox start from ₩129,000. Your doctor confirms the product, dose and final price.
At what age should I start lifting treatments?
There is no fixed age, but most people start considering lifting treatments in their 30s, when early loss of firmness appears along the jawline and cheeks. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors decide by skin laxity rather than age: gentle RF or Korean HIFU may suit early prevention, while Ulthera Prime or Thermage FLX suit moderate laxity, typically from the late 30s onward.
Is Rejuran made from salmon?
Yes. Rejuran's active ingredient is polynucleotide (PN), purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, made by Pharma Research in Korea. It is highly purified for injection and is not fish oil or fish collagen. Because it is fish-derived, tell your doctor about any fish or salmon allergy. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, the doctor reviews allergies before treatment and can suggest non-PN alternatives.
Can I get Botox while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Botox and other botulinum toxins are not recommended while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. There is not enough research to show they are safe for a developing baby or a nursing infant, so doctors advise waiting. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors also postpone most fillers, skin boosters and many lasers during this time, and can plan treatment for after you finish breastfeeding.
What should I avoid after pico toning?
For the first 24–48 hours after pico toning, avoid saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and rubbing your face. For about 3–5 days, skip scrubs, peels, retinoids and exfoliating acids. Most important, avoid unprotected sun throughout your course and use SPF 50 sunscreen daily. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, your doctor adjusts this advice for melasma-prone or sensitive skin.
Visiting
Booking, payment and travel
Practical questions about visiting Dernia from abroad.
How long does a consultation take?
Usually about 15–30 minutes. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, the consultation covers your goals, medical history, a skin assessment by a licensed doctor and a clear plan with prices, all in English. If you go ahead with treatment the same day, allow extra time for numbing and the procedure itself: about 1–2 hours in total for most treatments, and longer for lifting such as Thermage FLX or Ulthera.
Do you offer consultations in English?
Yes. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong offers consultations in English. You can discuss your goals, medical history, treatment options, doses, downtime, risks and prices, and ask questions before you decide. Treatments are performed by licensed medical doctors. Korean clinic terms such as shots, lines and cc are explained in plain language, so you know exactly what you are getting and what you are paying for.
Do I need to book in advance?
Booking in advance is recommended. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, walk-ins depend on availability on the day, while a reserved appointment secures the doctor's time, especially for longer treatments like Thermage FLX or Ulthera and for weekends and holiday periods. Booking a few days to a couple of weeks ahead, with your travel dates, lets the doctor plan treatments in the right order around your trip.
What currency are prices in, and is VAT included?
Prices at Dernia Clinic Myeongdong are in Korean won (KRW) and exclude 10% VAT, which is added when you pay. For example, a treatment listed at ₩100,000 costs ₩110,000 in total. Since January 1, 2026, foreign visitors can no longer claim a VAT refund on cosmetic procedures in Korea, so the VAT-inclusive figure is your real cost. Your doctor confirms the final price at consultation.
Can I get a tax refund on skin treatments in Korea?
No, not since January 1, 2026. The VAT refund that foreign patients could claim on cosmetic and aesthetic procedures in Korea has ended, so treatments now carry 10% VAT with no refund at the clinic or the airport. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, prices are listed in Korean won excluding VAT, so add 10% to see your real cost. Tax-free shopping refunds on eligible goods still exist separately.
What if I can't finish a treatment series before I fly home?
That is common and manageable. Most series treatments, such as pico toning, Rejuran Healer or acne programs, still give some benefit after one or two sessions, and you can continue on a later trip to Seoul or with a qualified doctor at home. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, share your travel dates first so the doctor can prioritize single-session treatments or plan a realistic partial course.
How long should I stay in Seoul for treatment?
For most non-surgical skin treatments, 3–7 days in Seoul is enough. That allows a consultation, treatment early in your stay and time for swelling or redness to settle before you fly. If you want Botox reviewed at its full effect, plan about 10–14 days; resurfacing lasers like CO2 need about a week. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong doctors plan treatments around your exact dates.
Should I stop retinol before treatment?
Usually yes for lasers, peels and microneedling: stop topical retinol or other retinoids about 3–7 days before, and restart once your skin has fully settled. For Botox and most injectables, pausing is usually not needed. Oral isotretinoin is different, so tell your doctor if you have taken it in the past 6–12 months. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong doctors confirm timing for your specific treatment.
