FAQ

At what age should I start lifting treatments?

Quick answer: There is no fixed age, but most people start considering lifting treatments in their 30s, when early loss of firmness appears along the jawline and cheeks. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, doctors decide by skin laxity rather than age: gentle RF or Korean HIFU may suit early prevention, while Ulthera Prime or Thermage FLX suit moderate laxity, typically from the late 30s onward.

  • Typical starting age: 30s
  • Deciding factor: Skin laxity, not age
  • Early prevention: Gentle RF or Korean HIFU such as Shurink Universe
  • Moderate laxity: Ulthera Prime, Thermage FLX or a combination
  • Advanced sagging: May need threads or a surgical opinion
  • Maintenance: Many repeat lifting about once a year

The detailed answer

Collagen production slows gradually from your mid-20s, and the face slowly loses volume and support. Genetics, sun exposure, smoking, weight changes and stress all change the pace, so two people of the same age can need very different care. That is why doctors look at your skin, not your passport.

Stage Common signs Options doctors often consider
Late 20s to early 30s Good firmness; early fine lines and slight jawline softening Skin-quality care and gentle tightening such as Oligio X or Shurink Universe
Mid 30s to 40s Early jowls; softer cheeks and jawline Ulthera Prime or Thermage FLX, often yearly
50s and beyond Deeper folds, jowls and neck laxity Combined lifting, threads or a surgical opinion where appropriate

These are broad patterns, not rules. Some people in their late 20s have marked laxity, and some in their 50s have very firm skin.

Why starting earlier can help

The Korean approach favors small, regular steps over one big change later. Supporting collagen while you still have plenty tends to give subtle, natural results and may delay the need for stronger treatment. When lifting is not the answer

Lifting devices tighten and support, but they do not replace lost volume or remove excess skin. If hollowness is the main issue, filler or collagen stimulators may help more. Lifting is also postponed during pregnancy or with an active skin infection, and RF is unsuitable with a pacemaker. See who should avoid or delay lifting.

Is it too early to start lifting in my 20s?

For most people in their 20s, strong lifting is not needed. Sun protection, good skincare and, if wanted, gentle skin-quality treatments are usually enough. Your doctor will tell you honestly if a treatment is unnecessary.

Is it too late to start in my 50s or 60s?

No. Non-surgical lifting can still improve firmness, though results are more modest when sagging is advanced. Combining treatments often helps, and some people are better served by a surgical opinion.

How long do lifting results last?

Ulthera and Thermage commonly last about a year or longer, while lighter Korean devices often last 3–12 months. See how long Ulthera lasts.
