Can I drink alcohol after filler?
Quick answer: Not right away. Wait at least 24 hours, and ideally 48, before drinking alcohol after dermal filler. Alcohol widens blood vessels and slightly thins the blood, which can increase swelling and bruising. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, we also suggest skipping alcohol the night before treatment. After that, moderate drinking is fine, and there is no good evidence it makes hyaluronic acid filler wear off faster.
- Before treatment: Avoid alcohol for about 24 hours
- After treatment: Wait at least 24 hours, ideally 48
- Why: Alcohol can increase swelling and bruising
- Also avoid for 24–48 hours: Hard exercise, saunas and pressing on the area
- Typical filler swelling: Mild, for 1–3 days
- Price from: ₩150,000 per 1cc (Korean HA filler)
The detailed answer
Most dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels placed with a fine needle or cannula. Each injection causes a little local trauma, so some swelling and the occasional bruise are normal for a few days. Alcohol makes both more likely. It dilates small blood vessels, adds to fluid retention and has a mild blood-thinning effect, so a drink on the evening of your treatment can turn a small bruise into a noticeable one.
The effect is strongest in delicate, vascular areas such as the lips and under-eyes. With lip filler, where swelling already peaks in the first 24–48 hours, alcohol can make it last longer.
Other things to pause around filler
- Supplements: fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo can increase bruising and are often paused for a few days beforehand.
- Pain relievers: aspirin and ibuprofen can increase bruising; acetaminophen (paracetamol) is usually preferred if you need one.
- Prescribed blood thinners: never stop these without your prescribing doctor's advice. Tell us at consultation, because they affect whether filler is suitable.
- Heat and hard exercise: skip saunas, hot yoga and intense workouts for 24–48 hours.
Social plans during your trip
Seoul's food and drink scene is part of the fun, so plan around it. Have filler on a quieter evening and save celebratory dinners for a day or two later. Our guide to planning treatments around your Seoul itinerary helps you sequence everything.
What we recommend
Skip alcohol from the night before until at least the day after treatment, keep your head raised the first night and use a cool compress for swelling. Know the warning signs too: increasing pain, skin that turns pale, blotchy or dusky, or any change in vision needs urgent attention, so contact the clinic straight away. Our guide to normal side effects vs when to contact us explains the difference.

Will one drink ruin my filler?
No. A drink will not move or dissolve the filler, but it may increase swelling or bruising for a day or two. If you have already had one, keep your head raised, drink water and use a cool compress.
Can I drink alcohol before filler?
It is best to avoid alcohol for about 24 hours beforehand, because it can make bruising more likely during and after injections.
Does alcohol make filler wear off faster?
There is no good evidence that moderate drinking shortens how long hyaluronic acid filler lasts. Longevity depends more on the product, the area and your metabolism, typically 6–18 months.
Can I fly after filler?
Usually yes. Swelling can feel more noticeable on a long flight, so a gap of a day or two is more comfortable. See flying after Botox and fillers.
