FAQ

What should I avoid after pico toning?

Quick answer: For the first 24–48 hours after pico toning, avoid saunas, hot baths, intense exercise and rubbing your face. For about 3–5 days, skip scrubs, peels, retinoids and exfoliating acids. Most important, avoid unprotected sun throughout your course and use SPF 50 sunscreen daily. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, your doctor adjusts this advice for melasma-prone or sensitive skin.

The detailed answer

Pico toning is gentle and has little or no downtime, so it is easy to forget that your skin has still been treated. Pigment has been disturbed, and the skin can be more sensitive for a few days. Aftercare is about avoiding anything that adds heat, friction or UV, because those can trigger irritation or rebound pigmentation, especially with melasma.

Avoid For how long Why
Saunas, Korean bathhouses (jjimjilbang), hot baths, hot yoga 24–48 hours Heat can prolong redness and stimulate pigment
Intense, sweaty workouts About 24 hours Heat and sweat can irritate
Scrubs, peels and cleansing brushes 3–5 days Friction and exfoliation irritate treated skin
Retinoids and exfoliating acids 3–5 days, or until calm They increase sensitivity
Unprotected sun and tanning Throughout your course UV can undo progress and darken pigment
Picking or rubbing Always It can leave marks

What you should do

  • Use a gentle, low-foaming cleanser and lukewarm water.
  • Moisturize well with a simple, fragrance-free cream.
  • Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen every morning and reapply outdoors; see sun protection after pico toning.
  • Wear a hat and seek shade while sightseeing.
  • Choose soothing sheet masks without strong actives if you want extra comfort.

Shopping for skincare in Myeongdong

Myeongdong is full of skincare stores, so it is tempting to try new products right away. Stick to gentle hydration and sunscreen for the first few days, and save exfoliating toners, peeling pads and retinol serums for later. Our guide to K-beauty shopping after treatment explains what is safe.

What we recommend

Follow these rules after every session, not just the first. If redness lasts more than a couple of days, blisters appear, or spots look darker rather than lighter, contact the clinic so a doctor can review your settings. For the full routine, see aftercare after laser treatment; for scheduling, see how often to do pico toning and the pico toning results timeline.
