Thermage FLX Results: Timeline and What to Expect

Quick answer: Thermage FLX gives subtle firming on the day, but the main result builds as new collagen forms, with visible change around one month and a peak at about 3–6 months. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, one session is typical, results commonly last 12–18 months, and many people repeat it on that cycle to maintain them.

Thermage FLX results timeline

Thermage FLX works in two phases. Heat tightens your existing collagen on the day, then your skin spends the next few months building new collagen. That second phase is where most of the visible change comes from, so it helps to know what each stage normally looks like.

When What you may notice What is happening in the skin
Day 0 Slight firmness and a fresh look; mild pinkness that fades within hours Existing collagen fibers contract in response to heat
Week 1 Some of the day-one firmness softens; bony areas may feel a little tender Minor swelling settles and the healing response begins
Month 1 Smoother texture and early firming along the jawline and cheeks New collagen formation is underway
Months 2–3 Clearer tightening; crepey areas look smoother Collagen remodeling continues
Months 3–6 Peak result for most people New collagen matures and organizes
Months 12–18 A gradual return toward your natural aging curve Normal aging continues; time to plan maintenance

These are typical ranges, not promises. Your own timeline depends on your skin and the shot plan your doctor chose. For how the device itself works, see our Thermage FLX treatment guide.

What improves and what doesn't

Usually improves

  • Mild to moderate looseness along the jawline and lower cheeks
  • Crepey texture on the cheeks, neck and eyelids (when the eye tip is used)
  • Overall firmness and the way light reflects off the skin
  • Mild hooding of the upper eyelids

Usually does not change

  • Deep folds caused mainly by volume loss
  • Heavy sagging or excess skin, which may need a surgical opinion
  • Expression lines driven by muscle movement, such as frown lines
  • Pigmentation, sun spots or redness

Factors that influence your results

  • Age and collagen reserve: skin that still produces collagen well tends to respond more visibly, so results in your 30s and 40s often look different from results in your 60s.
  • Degree of laxity: Thermage is strongest on mild to moderate looseness. The more advanced the sagging, the more modest the change.
  • Shot count and coverage: a focused 300-shot plan does less than a full-face and neck plan, which is why your doctor matches shots to the area.
  • Skin thickness: very thin or very heavy skin can respond less predictably.
  • Lifestyle: sun exposure, smoking, poor sleep and rapid weight changes all speed up collagen loss.

How to maximize and maintain your results

Thermage tightens the skin itself, but it does not reach the deeper SMAS layer that supports the face. That is why many people pair it with ultrasound lifting. Our guide to combining Thermage and Ulthera explains how the two work together, and the Seoul Signature Lifting package combines both in one visit. To improve skin quality alongside firmness, a course of Rejuran Healer can follow in later months.

  • Use broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, because UV exposure breaks down collagen.
  • Keep skin hydrated, and skip saunas and very hot baths for the first day or two.
  • Light activity is fine; see whether you can exercise after Thermage for timing.
  • Once your skin has settled, a retinoid or vitamin C routine supports long-term collagen health.

Realistic expectations and when to repeat

Thermage FLX gives a natural, gradual change. People may say you look rested rather than obviously lifted. It is not a facelift, and one session will not reverse years of sagging. Most people repeat it every 12–18 months, and some add a lighter lifting treatment in between. Our guide to how long lifting results last compares Thermage with other devices, and our medical team's Thermage FLX review weighs up its value. Current shot plans are listed on the Thermage FLX price page. Prices are in Korean won (KRW), exclude 10% VAT, and are confirmed at your consultation.

Tracking your progress

Because collagen builds slowly, changes are easy to miss in the mirror. If you had treatment during a trip to Seoul, your peak will usually arrive after you are home, so your own photos become your record. Take them before treatment and again at one, three and six months.

  • Face the same window at the same time of day, with no makeup.
  • Take a front view, both 45-degree angles and both profiles.
  • Keep the same distance and camera height, and turn off beauty filters.
  • Relax your face and jaw; don't smile or tilt your chin.

If your results aren't what you expected

Give the treatment time first, because judging before three months often underestimates the result. If you still see less change than you hoped for at that point, contact Dernia and share your photos so your doctor can review them. Possible next steps include adjusting the shot plan for your next session or adding a treatment that works at a different depth. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers from our medical team. Still unsure? Ask a doctor or browse all patient questions .

When will I see Thermage FLX results?

You may notice slight firming right away, but the main change appears gradually. Most people see smoother, firmer skin at around one month, with the full result at three to six months as new collagen matures.

Why does my skin look less tight a week after Thermage?

The firmness you see on the day comes partly from collagen contracting and mild swelling. As that settles over the first week or two, skin can look closer to how it did before. This is normal, and the longer-term collagen response is still building underneath.

How long do Thermage FLX results last?

Results commonly last around 12–18 months. Your skin keeps aging naturally during that time, so think of the benefit as setting the clock back rather than stopping it.

Is one Thermage session enough?

For most people, one session every 12–18 months is the usual plan. If you have deeper sagging or texture concerns, your doctor may suggest pairing it with ultrasound lifting or skin boosters.

Can I combine Thermage with other treatments?

Yes. Ulthera Prime works on deeper support layers, and skin boosters such as Rejuran Healer improve skin quality. Your doctor will advise the order and spacing for your trip.
