What is an HA skin booster?

The hyaluronic acid skin booster is the treatment that made Korean skin clinics famous for glow. In Korea it is called mulgwang, literally water glow, because of the dewy, light-reflecting finish it gives. It uses non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA), a soft, fluid form of the molecule your skin already uses to hold water, placed in tiny droplets across the face.

Because the HA is not cross-linked, it does not add shape or volume like filler. It hydrates the skin from within, softening fine dryness lines and giving an even, fresh look. It is the most affordable booster in our treatment menu and a popular first treatment for visitors new to Korean skincare clinics.

How it works

  • Hydration: each droplet of HA binds water in the upper dermis, plumping the skin from the inside.
  • Even distribution: an injector device places many micro-deposits at a consistent depth across the face.
  • Short-term boost: non-cross-linked HA is absorbed within weeks, so the glow is quick but not long-lasting.

Some clinics customize the mix with other ingredients. Your doctor will explain exactly what goes into your treatment. Because the injector works in a pattern, you may see a faint grid of tiny marks for a day; that is normal and fades quickly.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Dehydrated skin that feels tight or looks dull
  • Fine, crisscross dryness lines on the cheeks or forehead
  • Crepey, dry skin on the neck, hands or décolletage
  • First-timers who want a low-cost, low-commitment glow

Be realistic about what HA hydration can do. Forehead and frown lines caused by muscle movement need Botox; hydration only softens the fine surface lines around them. On the lips, an HA booster adds moisture and smoothness, not shape; for volume, lip filler is the right tool.

Your session at Dernia, step by step

  1. Consultation in English with a licensed medical doctor, who checks your skin type and goals.
  2. Numbing with topical anesthetic cream for about 20–30 minutes.
  3. Injection with a multi-needle injector or by hand, covering the face evenly.
  4. Soothing with a calming mask.

Downtime and aftercare

Small bumps and faint grid marks appear and usually settle within one to two days. Pinpoint bruises are possible. Most people go back to sightseeing straight away and wear makeup the next day. For 24 hours avoid saunas, alcohol and intense exercise. Drink plenty of water and use a simple moisturizer to support the effect.

Results: what to expect and when

The glow is visible within a day or two, once the bumps settle, and usually lasts about one to three months. A course of two or three sessions a few weeks apart gives a more even, longer-lasting result. Many people in Korea then repeat it every month or two, or seasonally when cold, dry winter air and indoor heating dehydrate the skin. Hydration will not lift sagging, fill hollows or treat scars. For a longer-lasting HA option from a single session, consider Skinvive.

HA skin booster vs skin Botox

Both are popular Korean glow treatments. HA hydrates, while skin Botox uses tiny, superficial doses of toxin to reduce oil and pore appearance and smooth fine texture. They are often combined. Read skin Botox vs HA skin booster, or our honest HA skin booster review.

Planning an HA booster around a trip to Seoul

A quick session with a fast glow makes it ideal for short stays; book it at least a day or two before photos. Long flights and a change of climate often leave skin tight and dull, so many visitors book a booster early in their trip to reset hydration. It is part of the First Glow Package and the Prevention Package for Your 30s. Book a consultation and your doctor will confirm the plan.

Safety: who should avoid or delay it

HA skin boosters are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection or inflamed acne in the area, or with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine. Tell your doctor about bleeding disorders and blood thinners. At Dernia, boosters are injected by licensed medical doctors.

What is the water glow injection?

It is the Korean name for a hyaluronic acid skin booster: tiny droplets of non-cross-linked HA placed in the skin for instant hydration and a dewy finish.

How long does an HA skin booster last?

Usually about one to three months. A course of two or three sessions and regular maintenance help extend the effect.

Can I combine an HA booster with Botox?

Yes. Many people combine it with skin Botox or wrinkle Botox in the same visit. Your doctor will confirm the order and dosage.
