Quick answer: Small benign moles, skin tags and seborrheic keratoses can be removed quickly with a precise CO2 laser after a doctor checks each one. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, removal starts from ₩15,000 per lesion, takes 10–30 minutes and leaves a small healing patch for 5–10 days. What are moles and skin tags?
Moles, which doctors call nevi, are clusters of pigment cells. They can be flat or raised and brown, black or skin-colored, and most are harmless. Skin tags are small, soft flaps of skin on a narrow stalk, usually on the neck, eyelids and underarms, and they become more common with friction, weight gain and age. Seborrheic keratoses are raised, waxy brown spots that look stuck on and appear more often from middle age. Small raised bumps around the eyes, such as syringomas, can also be assessed by a doctor. Many people want lesions removed because they catch on clothing or jewelry, or simply for appearance.
How each lesion is assessed
At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, a doctor examines every lesion before removal, usually with a dermatoscope, a lighted magnifier. This step matters. Laser removal destroys the tissue, so nothing is left to send to a laboratory. That is why only lesions that look clearly benign are lasered. Your doctor may also photograph larger moles for your records. Your doctor looks for warning signs using the ABCDE rule:
- Asymmetry: one half does not match the other
- Border: irregular, ragged or blurred edges
- Color: several shades or uneven color
- Diameter: larger than about 6 mm
- Evolving: changing in size, shape, color or symptoms
Any lesion with warning signs, or one that bleeds, itches or looks different from your other moles, is not removed by laser. Your doctor will refer you for a biopsy so it can be examined properly.
Treatment options
Mole & Skin Tag Removal
Mole and skin tag removal uses a focused CO2 laser to vaporize small benign lesions layer by layer with very little bleeding. Numbing cream or a small local anesthetic keeps it comfortable. Your doctor chooses it for small moles, skin tags and seborrheic keratoses that have been checked. Each lesion leaves a small healing patch, often covered with a hydrocolloid dressing, for 5–10 days. Larger or deeper lesions may need more than one session. Most lesions do not return, though a deeper mole can occasionally regrow and need a touch-up.
CO2 Fractional Laser
The same CO2 technology in fractional mode, the CO2 fractional laser, treats an area with tiny columns of energy rather than one spot. Your doctor may choose it to refine a small scar or uneven texture left after removing a larger lesion, or to treat areas of rough sun damage. It is not used to remove individual moles, which need the focused mode. Expect 5–7 days of redness and crusting.

Combination plans
Many people remove several small lesions in one visit, and skin tags on the neck and eyelids are a common request. Flat brown spots that are not raised are usually better treated with light or laser toning; see sun spots and age spots. Our guide to pigmentation types explains the differences.
Aftercare
- Keep the healing patch clean and covered as advised, usually with a hydrocolloid dressing.
- Avoid picking the scab; let it come away naturally.
- Use SPF on the area for several months to prevent darkening.
- Avoid makeup directly on the healing patch until it has closed.

Planning treatment during a trip to Seoul
Removal takes 10–30 minutes. Plan for small healing patches on your face for about a week, which you can cover with dressings while sightseeing. Swimming pools and saunas are best avoided until the patches have healed. Book a consultation so your doctor can check your lesions first.
When to see a doctor
A new mole in adulthood, a mole that changes, bleeds or itches, a spot that looks different from the rest, or a family history of melanoma all need medical review rather than cosmetic removal. Monthly self-checks help you notice change early. If you tend to form keloids, mention it, as laser can leave a raised scar.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers from our medical team. Still unsure? Ask a doctor or browse all patient questions .
Does mole removal leave a scar?
Most small lesions heal with a flat mark that fades over several months. A tiny dip or lighter spot can remain, especially after deeper moles, and sun protection helps the area blend in.
Will the mole come back?
Most removed lesions do not return. Deeper moles can occasionally regrow a little pigment, and a short touch-up session usually treats it.
Can a removed mole be tested?
Not after laser removal, because the tissue is vaporized. That is why any mole with warning signs is referred for a biopsy rather than lasered.
How many lesions can be removed in one visit?
Several small lesions can usually be treated in one session. Your doctor checks each one first and plans the number based on size and location.
Does mole removal hurt?
Numbing cream or a small local anesthetic is used, so most people feel only brief pressure or warmth. The area may feel tender for a day or two.
