How to Choose a Skin Clinic in Seoul: A Practical Checklist

Quick answer: Choose a Seoul skin clinic by checking who performs the treatment, whether you see a doctor first, whether products and device tips are genuine and opened in front of you, and whether the written quote lists brand, amount and VAT. Ask how aftercare works once you fly home. Dernia Clinic Myeongdong encourages you to ask every clinic, including us, the same ten questions.

  • Who treats you: Ask whether a licensed doctor performs the procedure
  • Consultation: You should see a doctor before treatment
  • Genuine products: Sealed boxes and tips opened in front of you
  • Clear quotes: Brand, amount (shots, lines, cc, units) and VAT stated
  • Aftercare: Written instructions and a way to reach the clinic from home
  • Red flags: Pressure selling, unclear brands, prices far below the norm

Why it is worth a few checks

Seoul has a very large number of skin and aesthetic clinics, from small neighborhood practices to large multi-floor centers. Prices, products and standards vary. A few simple questions protect your safety and your budget, and a good clinic will be happy to answer them. These are the same questions we would encourage you to ask us.

The 10-point checklist

  1. Who performs your treatment? Ask whether a licensed medical doctor performs the procedure, and who that will be on the day.
  2. Will you see a doctor first? A proper consultation reviews your medical history, medications and goals, and explains risks and alternatives before anything starts.
  3. Are products and devices genuine? Ask to see sealed product boxes and syringes, and for devices such as Thermage FLX or Ulthera Prime, a new tip or cartridge and the shot counter.
  4. Is the quote written and specific? It should name the brand or device, the amount (shots, lines, cc or units) and whether VAT is included.
  5. Are low prices explained? A very low price can mean a different brand, fewer shots, diluted product or costly add-ons later. Ask what exactly is included.
  6. Is the plan tailored to you? A good doctor suggests what fits your face and schedule, and says no when a treatment will not help.
  7. Can you communicate clearly? You should understand your consultation and receive aftercare instructions in writing, in a language you read well.
  8. How does follow-up work? Ask how to reach the clinic after you fly home and what happens if you have a concern.
  9. Does it feel clean and safe? Look for single-use needles, tidy treatment rooms and staff who explain what they are doing.
  10. Will you get records? Ask for product names, amounts and dates in writing so a doctor at home can continue safely.

Red flags

Red flag Why it matters
Price far below others for the same named device May mean fewer shots or a tip that is not genuine or new
Treatment starts before you meet a doctor Your history and risks have not been assessed
Pressure to add treatments today only Sales are being put ahead of suitability
Brand or amount left vague Hard to compare quotes or continue care at home
No written aftercare Problems are harder to manage after you leave
Promises that results are certain or permanent Results vary, and most non-surgical results fade over time

Practical factors for visitors

Beyond safety and price, a few practical points make a big difference when you are only in Seoul for a short time:

  • Scheduling: can the clinic fit treatments with downtime early in your stay and check injectables before you fly?
  • Location: is it easy to reach from your hotel by subway or on foot?
  • Communication before the trip: can you share your dates and concerns in advance?
  • Continuity: will you leave with written details that a doctor at home can follow?

Before you contact any clinic, decide on your main concern, your budget range and how many days you have. That makes it much easier to compare answers.

Read reviews and social media with care

Influencer posts and agency listings are often sponsored, and Korean medical advertising rules restrict how clinics can use patient testimonials. Treat glowing reviews and dramatic before-and-after images with caution, and focus on how clearly a clinic explains treatments, risks and prices. Our own expert treatment reviews assess treatments, not clinics, and explain who each one suits.

Understand pricing before you compare

Korean clinics price per unit, so two quotes for the same treatment can look very different. Convert each to the same unit and to a VAT-inclusive total. See shots, lines and cc explained and our 2026 VAT update, since the cosmetic VAT refund for foreign patients ended on January 1, 2026.

Know your products

For injectables, ask which brand will be used and why. Korean toxins and fillers are widely used alongside imported brands, at different prices. Our guides to Korean Botox safety, toxin brands and filler brands explain the options.

Bring a list of questions

It is easy to forget questions once you are in the chair. Our list of questions to ask at your consultation covers suitability, risks, downtime, aftercare and cost. Also read normal side effects vs when to contact the clinic, so you know what to expect.

How we answer these questions

We think every patient should ask these questions, wherever they go. At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, treatments are performed by licensed medical doctors, consultations are held in English, and quotes list the product, amount and price in KRW excluding 10% VAT. You can read how a visit works and meet our medical team, then compare us with any other clinic using this checklist. When you are ready, book a consultation.

Not sure which treatment is right for you?

Tell us your concerns and your travel dates. A doctor examines your skin in person, explains your options in English, and confirms the plan and price before anything is done.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers from our medical team. Still unsure? Ask a doctor or browse all patient questions .

How do I know if a Seoul clinic uses genuine products?

Ask to see sealed boxes, syringes and device tips opened in front of you, and for devices with a counter, ask to see the shot count at the end. Clinics that use genuine products are usually happy to show you.

Should a doctor perform my treatment?

Ask the clinic who will perform your treatment and whether a licensed doctor is involved throughout. You should always see a doctor for assessment before injectables, lasers or energy-based lifting.

Are cheaper clinics in Seoul safe?

Price alone does not tell you about safety. A lower price can be fair, but check the brand, the amount, who performs the treatment and what aftercare is included before you decide.

Can I trust online reviews of Korean clinics?

Use them with care. Many posts are sponsored, and advertising rules limit how clinics can use testimonials. Focus on clear information about treatments, risks and pricing.

What should I ask before paying?

Ask for a written quote with the brand, amount and VAT status, what is included, and how to reach the clinic after you fly home. Keep a copy of your treatment details.
