How Skinvive works

Skinvive is part of the Juvéderm family from Allergan. It is a lightly cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel with lidocaine, injected as many tiny microdroplets evenly across the cheeks. Each droplet attracts and holds water in the dermis, so the skin looks smoother, more hydrated and more reflective. In the United States it is FDA-approved to improve cheek skin smoothness in adults over 21. One treatment is usually enough, with an optional touch-up.

How Profhilo works

Profhilo, from IBSA in Italy, contains a very high concentration of hyaluronic acid in a hybrid of high- and low-molecular-weight chains, stabilized with heat rather than chemical cross-linkers. It is injected at five points per side of the face, often called the BAP technique, and spreads naturally under the skin. Profhilo hydrates deeply and supports the skin's own collagen and elastin, so it is often described as a bio-remodeler. Two sessions about four weeks apart are standard.

Choose Skinvive if…

  • You want smoother, glowing cheeks in a single appointment
  • Your concern is texture and radiance rather than laxity
  • You want a clear treatment for an event or a short trip
  • You prefer a product with lidocaine mixed in for comfort

Choose Profhilo if…

  • Your skin feels dehydrated and has begun to look crepey or slightly lax
  • You want to treat the neck, hands or décolletage as well as the face
  • You prefer fewer injection points per session
  • You can return for a second session about four weeks later

Can you combine them?

Yes. Profhilo can improve hydration and firmness across the face and neck, while Skinvive targets cheek smoothness. Doctors often treat different areas in one visit, such as Profhilo on the neck and Skinvive on the cheeks, or space them a few weeks apart on the same area. Skinvive also features in our Bridal Glow Package(from ₩549,000) with Rejuran Healer and pico toning.

Cost comparison

At Dernia Clinic Myeongdong, Skinvive starts from ₩290,000 for one syringe on the cheeks, and Profhilo from ₩390,000 for 2ml per session. Because Profhilo is usually done twice, a full course starts from ₩780,000, while one Skinvive treatment is often complete on its own. See current plans on the Skinvive price page and the Profhilo price page. Prices are in Korean won (KRW), exclude 10% VAT, and are confirmed at your consultation.

How our doctors decide

Your doctor examines skin hydration, texture, thickness and laxity, and asks which areas bother you most. Rough, dull cheeks with good firmness point to Skinvive. Crepey, dehydrated skin on the face or neck points to Profhilo. Your travel dates matter too: on a short stay, Skinvive's single session is simpler to complete, while Profhilo works best when you can return about four weeks later for the second session.

Neither is injected during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active infection, or without review if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder; tell your doctor about any lidocaine allergy. See typical outcomes on the Skinvive results page, read our guide to skin boosters, browse more comparisons, or book a consultation and a licensed doctor will recommend the booster that suits your skin.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers from our medical team. Still unsure? Ask a doctor or browse all patient questions .

Is Skinvive the same as Profhilo?

No. Both use hyaluronic acid, but Skinvive is a lightly cross-linked microdroplet gel for cheek smoothness, while Profhilo is a high-concentration, heat-stabilized HA that spreads from ten points to hydrate and firm. They come from different manufacturers.

Which lasts longer?

Both commonly last about six months. Profhilo reaches that after two sessions, while Skinvive usually needs only one.

Which is better for the neck?

Profhilo is commonly used on the neck, hands and décolletage. Skinvive is mainly used on the cheeks.

Will either change my face shape?

No. Neither is a volumizing filler. They improve skin quality, so the change is in smoothness, hydration and firmness rather than contour.

Can I have Skinvive or Profhilo before a flight?

Yes, both have minimal downtime. Small bumps usually settle within a day or two. Keep your skin hydrated on board and avoid pressing on the treated areas.
